I'm a dog guy but Rob Neyer and those that think like this can fuck off. On the list of Things Humans Do That Suck, shooting off fireworks and inadvertently scaring a few dogs for a night is very, very low.

But I'm willing to reconsider. Are the firework people douchebags or are whiny bitches like Rob Neyer douchebags when it comes to this?

Shooting off fireworks after 10:30,that you were dumb enough to buy, also lets everyone know you have a small penis.

Not a douchebag on July 4th.

On June 15th through June 30th, yes you're a douchebag.

Prior to three years ago when he happened to get a dog, how many times did Rob take part in this 241-year-old "breathtakingly thoughtless" tradition?

Hey everybody, no one can shoot off fireworks on the 4th of July anymore because this Star-Spangled Dickhead over here just got a dog.

Forget that. Blowing shit up is awesome. It's as American as dropping bombs on brown people.

Also, John Adams felt Independence Day should be celebrated just this way.

Quote:
I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.

My dog hates bikes, skateboards, garbage trucks, basketballs, vacuum cleaners and hair dryers, maybe I should go on Twitter and bitch about it...

Seriously, he probably should shut the fuck up and leave his phone off when he has these thoughts.

It's hard to overstate just how freaked out dogs can get by fireworks, but anything on the fourth is fair game. You can blast music and give your dog valium for the night, and that should help a little at least. Making it a week or longer celebration is douchebaggy. Having a dog afraid of fireworks definitely ruins the holiday, though.

I saw a guy spend over $2k on fireworks and another spend $1600 yesterday. I buy fireworks every year but that was ridiculous.

I bought fireworks to show my one year old and it scared the daylights out of him and mommy had to quickly take him inside and calm him down. Nomination supported.

I'll bet some of my neighbors spent close to that. Two Mexican families were launching fireworks from Friday night through last night. They had some pretty heavy duty stuff.

july 1st through 4th i'll allow. before 10:00. anything else is ridiculous and doucheworthy.

your dog will survive and there are tons of things you can do to calm them down.

someone on our facebook "please our dog is home alone and will be terrified of fireworks, please recognize this as you celebrate this and remember our "fur babies" (BLECH)" some inquired as to where they'd be and why they wouldn't be at home with their pet....."we'll be at red white and BOOM". smh

I love dogs but if your beta dog can't handle a few loud booms, he's forgotten where he came from.

If it's that bad, go to the vet and get some dog Valium. Give it to them around 6pm and that dog will be fucking floating to the moon by the time the loud stuff starts going off.

For every "think of the dogs" post there's also a "think of the ptsd vet" post as well, unless they're both mentioned in the same post

I had a dog that was a flunked bird dog due to gun shyness. Actually still have him but he's mostly recovered. We just give him some herbal crap the vet gave us and it helps. For us it's more opening day of shotgun season that's the problem.

My kids have been asking for fireworks last few years. Looked into it a while back. 2k could happen very quickly if you wanted to get crazy.

We have 3 dogs...2 of them royally freak out from fireworks in the neighborhood....but then again, they also freak out during thunderstorms as well. Most of the local yahoos were done by 10:30 so can't complain too much.

Last night as we were spectating the local amateur pyros, my wife and I were discussing the amount of $$ these people must have blown on their fireworks. Seems like a waste to me, but that's their thing I guess.

I hate fireworks, I get a small amount of joy when adults lose fingers or hands lighting this cheap Chinese shit off. It leaves debris everywhere, it can start fires.. I'd ban em if I was in charge.

Should get a kick out of this story.

Quote:
Man dies when fireworks he was checking suddenly go off

Katherine Rosenberg-Douglas and Deanese Williams-HarrisContact Reporters
Chicago Tribune
A man was killed on the Southwest Side Tuesday night when he bent over a fireworks tube that hadn't ignited and it suddenly went off, striking him in the head, according to police and fire officials.

David Griffin, 42, was with children in an alley in the 2500 block of West 54th Street in Gage Park when he set up a fireworks display around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.

Griffin lit a tube made to shoot fireworks 40 to 50 feet into the air but it did not go off, fire officials said. He bent over the tube and the fireworks went off and hit him in the face.

He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and pronounced dead at 9:54 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Griffin lived on the block where the accident happened.
