I would also settle for nude pics of Jake Tapper. Dude is a dreamboat.

Has anyone discovered where Brian Stelter has disappeared to? Usually that pompous ass is sneering at all other media while extolling the virtues of CNN

Meh. Not a big deal. Let me put it this way: the camera adds a couple of inches.

You're thinking of Dana Bash.

This could get really interesting the next few days.

If anyone is confused about doxxing pay attention to the information these trolls dig up on CNN employees.

Seems like some are okay with this

Doxxing can be morally justifiable, but not in this case (revenge, doxxing innocent people).

A news organization doxxing someone is called reporting. CNN decided not to report news but chose to engage in sanctimonious moralizing instead.

I don't think that's true. People would go apeshit if they just started doxxing every racist and/or Trump supporter on Reddit.

Shold have clarified. A news organization reporting on newsworthy information is not doxxing. If CNN posted the names and addresses of a bunch of random /pol/ users then I suppose that would be doxxing.

The problem is, it's not news. It's retribution. if it's news, you print the name. You don't threaten to print it based on some future behavior.

That's why I said CNN didn't report news.

You didn't say that at all. You clarified a little, but your statement is still ambiguous.

If CNN just revealed the guy's name then they would not have doxxed him in my mind as he made the gif used by the president. Instead they went a far stupider route.

I think that's part of doxxing--revealing someone's identity when that person does not want his or her identity revealed.

A much stupider route for sure....not sure what they were thinking.

Right. If the president didnt retweet his gif and CNN just decided to reveal his name that would be doxxing. Instead they decided to do something much dumber.

Was his name important to the story? He wasn't involved. Should we have full stories on the personal life of everyone the president retweets?

This is a hard question to answer because of the way CNN handled the story. If CNN reported the story as, "the president retweeted a guy who posts a bunch of racist stuff online" then I think it's fine to post the guy's name in the context of that story. CNN instead chose to editorialize the story and threatened to release his name if he didn't play nice. Which is of course something I have a problem with.

Here's the thing, nothing about this redditor is remotely relevant to news as he isn't even the one who posted/created the gif in question.

The file Trump uploaded had a different aspect ratio, the coloring was different, the WWE logo was different, and it had audio. The Reddit post differed from the Trump post in each of these ways so CNN tracked down the wrong guy in the 1st place.

I can't believe almost none of the media covering this has picked up on this basic fact. CNN is ignoring this as they spin their defense.

CNN is acting like a playground bully instead of a responsible new organization. We expect such pettiness Trump, TMZ, Deadspin, and 4chan. There is the reason the NYT and WSJ are respected, while the National Enquirer is laughed at.

Let's say that the President finds this site and retweets and links to a post I made about Hillary? Is it open season for the media to find out and put my life story out there?

This guy wasn't even attributed by the President. What you are saying is that literally anything you ever post online can turn you into a public figure.

I can still view the NYT and WaPo as respectable (even if I find their OpEd pages to be jokes). CNN is dead though as a news organization.

The right to free speech, which only precludes the government from censoring you, does not include a right to anonymity. This is like saying redneck sheet wearing Klansmen are entitled to anonymity.

I mentioned this during the election cycle- they are just going tabloid. This is the channel I used to turn to whenever there was a major international issue like a plane shot down or war breaking out. They had global scale with reporters on the ground and access to industry experts.

I think the NYT does a great job. While I don't agree with its political leanings, it produces solid journalist stories. The WSJ is solid as well. Either of those organizations are going to have detractors of their Editorial pages. But I can disagree with someone's opinion about a problem. It is a different matter to act like first graders.

This is all accurate.

In the past CNN shows consisted of anchors going around to live shots or stories produced by reporters on the ground. Now it is an anchor with a panel of morons err I mean pundits arguing and screaming over each other.

Now for TV news, I just watch BBC World, they still embed reporters globally and provide real news reports. Their panel shows are limited and when they have them, it's experts rather than pundits.

As for print, NYT is still the standard of the US press and their international reporting is second to none.
