Yes. Say what you want, but prepare to be held accountable. If you want to parade with the Klan or the Nazis or Mike Madigan, you should be outed so your neighbors can shun you, if they so choose.

What about people who do other disagreeable things like get abortions or donate to a radical preacher or Imam? What's more, who gets to decide what is disagreeable and deserves public outing and shaming? You? Twitter?

I don't think medical procedures aee comparable to people making public statements in public online forums.

Do you believe that the contents of the "What do you do to unwind" thread, in which some confess guilt to misdemeanors, should be used as a reason to expose the true identities of the posters real names and divulgence of that information to their employers which would certainly create a strong case for their dismissal?

Should that be done? No. Could that be done? Yes.

And who is to decide what speech is unpopular?
Dude if you were smart and reasonable you'd defend to your death the right of the klan or Nazis to shout their message from a mountaintop? Someday what you think is right might be considered unpopular speech.
Are you prepared to be required to be held accountable for your thoughts, be they as they may less extreme than Nazi extremism? I mean what we have here iin this case isn't exactly Nazism or klan speak, we can certainly agree, yes?

I defend the rights of the Nazis, Klansman, the doofus in this instance, to say whatever they want. I've never said differently.

So you believe that free speech does not exist in anonymity, only with a true signature?
So... If you were alive in the mid 1700s, you would believe that Benjamin Franklin should be exposed by name for his Silence Dogood letters?

You say being held accountable as if this man has committed some type of crime. Do you believe he committed a crime?

A. I've never read the thread. B. I wouldn't do so, pwrsonally. C. If I were counseling an employer who ran across that thread, I would say that whatever was posted in that thread should.be taken with a grain of salt and probably could not be relied upon to base an employment decision.

"Free speech" as in 1st Amendment Free Speech does not.protect you from your fellow.citizens from having a negative opinion of you for your thoughts. Sorry. Anonymity has nothing to do with it. It is wholly irrelevant to the concept.

One can be held accountable for his thoughts, ideas, biases etc. No, he did not commit a crime.

So when you're saying "held accountable", what exactly do you mean? The average citizen taking matters into their own hands via harassment or are you referring to something else?

Because if you had to go to court, it would be extremely hard to prove who actually posted the post, even with the UP number. There was a recent 2d Dist. of Illinois case that dealt with the admissibility of a Facebook post. Got reversed.

Interesting. How does that differ from the reddit/CNN case?

I'm not talking pitchforks or violence.

Didn't some stockbroker get fired for some sexist tweet he made after people notified his boss? I've got no problem with boycotts, etc.

I can tell you I don't shop at Hobby Lobby or eat at Chix-fil-a or Oberweiss.

Didn't the guy admit he made/posted the gif?

Been nice chatting. Good discussion. I've got to go. I'm sure I'll get tarred while I'm gone. That's fine. I'm a man, over 40.

Perhaps. He admitted to making a similar gif, and whether its the one that that trump tweeted remains questionablen but did he admit to the posts that you found more offensive? Are those other posts problematic for the reasons that you raised with the "unwind" thread?

Do you wear a safety pin to signal you're an ally and let other men fuck your wife while you watch too?

So apparently Kaczynski himself didn't write the blackmail line, but rather a CNN editor added it after he submitted the story.

If I'm Kaczynski, I'm fucking pissed at my employer as they have really left him hung out to dry here and have allowed the Internet to attribute something toh im that he never did.

Then again, it's hard to feel sympathy for him if you recall he blamed the 2013 Boston bombings on a missing college student based off of a reddit post.

Good thing 4chan waited for all the facts before unleashing their psycho brand of internet justice.

They're known for being totally fair and normal.

There is a huge difference between people like the Red Heffer yelling at people and what 4chan does.

I don't think anyone here likes 4chan. Do you feel sorry for CNN?

CNN never even released that fact, the fact only came out last night from Kaczynski's former editor at Buzzfeed (who I'm guessing Kaczynski used as a proxy here).

CNN is still hanging him out before the fire here. Blame them for creating the situation. CNN could've cleared this up by not adding the line or saying an editor added it that night.
