He's doing this to get in baseball shape for the Cubs to sign him in late August for a playoff run. Theo probably asked him if he wanted to come back. He does. Obviously.

Right. It's easy to say you love your wife and kids when you are never around them. Ross figured this out quickly.

I have no idea. I think it's the itch to get back to the Cubs as the back up catcher since they cut Montero. To be the great David Ross leader and push them to another World Series title. And also to get away from the wife and kids as was mentioned.
