If this is who he is, then a terrible trade. If a solid #2/#3 then the price was high but they do have a lot of talent in the OF so Jimenez is surplus.

that's not how professional athletes work. if they did, they'd be out of whatever league they are in.

terrible analysis

I see you're one of those super serious fan analysts who thinks he's got everything figured out good for you bud

To try and say "that's not a professional athletes work" is a ridiculous statement. There are thousands of professional athletes across the major sports and not all of them are the same and some of them are mental midgets and some thrive under pressure. To deny that is laughable.

Congrats, Cubs fans. Quintana had a 4 year track record between 2013-2016 that suggests he's a top notch #2 starter when he's right. This is undeniable if you have brains enough to interpret a fangraphs page (ie the IQ of a 12 year old).

Hopefully he is a solid #2 and that Jimenez is a stud. Nothing wrong with a trade helping both teams. Cease is a coin flip guy but likely nothing more than a bullpen arm - although possibly a late innings bullpen guy and therefore valuable. He could also be another Nate Jones.

"When he's right"

In which one of those seasons was the career under .500 pitcher right? Is that on the Fangraphs page ?

Wins don't mean anything for a pitcher. Maddux just got lucky getting his 350. Cy Young only won over 500 because of great run support!

If this trade gets rpb back posting regularly it will clearly be a win.

B&G said Quintana is 6th in WAR among all pitchers over the last 3 or 4 years. I wouldn't have guessed he graded out that well.

For those of you who have said he's just an "average" pitcher that is just flat out wrong.

Beardown if there's a manager or GM in the league that would name Quintana starting a game they absolutely had to win and feel comfortable I'll show you one that should be out of a job.

Even if WAR isn't a true indicator, there is no doubt that he's at least a top 15 pitcher in MLB.

You should feel comfortable with Quintana in a big game. Now, if he's going against Sale or Kershaw, I wouldn't feel good. Obviously. So it depends on the match up.

He's lefty Edwin Jackson. Innings eater that can't go more than 6 IP and never is really a winner.

Their 162 avg W/L is similar. Quintana's 162 avg ERA is a run lower though but that doesn't include his inevitable shitty final years like Jackson's does. He will probably finish his career with similar numbers.

Per baseball-reference.com pitchers most like Q includes Dallas Kuechel (2)and for E Jax (2) is Brett Tomko.

I know you hate Q but E Jax was the man with the golden arm and the 10 cent brain.

Agreed... throw out this year and he's a weak 1/great 2.

I don't think people who think he's a loser have actually watched him pitch over the past six years.

Fangraphs.com listed Quintana as the 7th best pitcher in MLB since 2013
