Okay Mad Dogs producer who is clearly a guy who should be on the radio and not TV is very happy with the trade from Cubs perspective and thinks the White Sox should have gotten more like Ian Happ so I guess this is a big win

To be serious for a minute it is good to get quality starting pitcher with years of control definitely a good thing I'm just not sure about what they gave up and who they may have gotten instead (example Archer)

The Cubs are not going to win the World Series in 2017 that is my opinion I would have rather them sell off some older parts this year and reload for next year but that's just me

He was 13-12 on a pretty bad team last year

In 4 full seasons, he has two winning seasons and losing ones. .500 pitcher is fine, but to say career loser is a bit much.

Not much difference between the great Archer and Quintana over a career. Maybe Archer is better at his best...maybe.

I am not a guy who follows prospects but the ceiling on those two players is not close. If given the choice of either/or by the Cubs, I doubt there is a GM in the league who would have taken Happ, even today's Happ playing in MLB.

Maybe he meant Happ rather than Cease.

I have to keep reminding myself I'm talking with Cubbie fans when I repeat that the Rays, who Chris Archer plays for, currently hold the #1 wild card position in the AL and have a better record than the cubbies.

That's not reality. The Rays, like other small market teams can never really label someone untouchable. If a great package is put together, they'll trade him. Even while in wild card contention. They went 17-6 in July of 2014 to get back in Wild Card race and traded David Price anyway.

"It's not waving a white flag at all," Rays president Matt Silverman said. "If your team plays to the level that it can, especially considering all the head-to-head games we have within our division, we have a chance to make up the deficit and get into the playoffs. It's more difficult without David, but if the rest of the team plays up to their potential, we're going to be playing meaningful games in September."

Archer won't be a free agent until 2020.

And Price was a year and half away when they traded him. As you know, there are certain teams that have to consider all deals. Rays are one of them.
