If we do want to turn this into a played out Lebron debate, his pass to Korver also didn't take place in an elimination game, so I guess that therefore makes it alright!

Kobe is clearly the 2nd best SG of all time and almost a carbon copy of Jordan.

Your LeBron point will always be wrong UNLESS his team is winning in the series when it happens. As I said then he should take the shot in a similar situation every single time.

You're just creating ad hoc conditions now. We've gone from clutch players should demand the ball in their hands during crunch time to clutch players should demand the ball in their hands in crunch time of elimination games to clutch players should demand the ball in their hands only specifically if they're tied or losing a series but are free from criticism down the stretch otherwise.

Huh? Now you're just making stuff up.

Yeah but they won't fetch you equal value on the market. Say Jordan and Kobe are both 24 right now and balling - they'd cost the same if you want to acquire one of them in a trade.

At age 24, Jordan was averaging more points a game than Kobe even did on the trash Lakers teams he played for after driving his own Batman out of LA. Bryant doesn't fetch close to market value against the more athletically explosive early Jordan.

How so? No one has ever had to attach as many qualifications for what clutch truly means as you do when you try to criticize Lebron for making a percentage play and absolve Kobe for his career of inefficient chucking.

No one mentioned clutch at any point when discussing the pass to Korver. Try again!

At 23/24 Kobe was Jordan's equal. After then? Things changed dramatically.

There's no way you can believe this. Both were regarded as probably the top player in the league at 24, or at least top three, when they were 24. Bryant seemed like more of a headcase than Jordan since he drove out PJ of all people, but that wouldn't be enough for him to not cost the same as Jordan in a trade. No one is going to quibble over a three point PPG difference or whatever it was. Both were studs.

That is true, and then you would spend eternity defending the team who traded for Kobe instead of Jordan.

It wouldn't make a difference - the team trading for Kobe would likely have the same chance at success as they would had they traded for Jordan.

Damn. That's a rough take.

I'm suggesting any team getting 24 year old Kobe is definitively going to be worse than if they got 24 year old MJ instead. I realize you think this is hindsight. Some of it obviously is, but it's still correct.

Bryant wasn't even the best player on his own team at 23/24.

At 24 years old Jordan was avg between 35-37 points per game. Kobe Bryant was riding Shaq's coattails.

His game was more polished and he had had played a leading role on multiple championships.

Jordan was attempting to beat some of the best teams in history and Bryant was playing second fiddle. Jordan's 2nd best player was Charles Oakley while Kobe was the Lakers 2nd best.

I'm using it to I guess, but I still don't see how Kobe is going to be "definitively" less successful than Jordan. They're remarkably similar players, and that's no accident.

I disagree with remarkably. Kobe modeled himself after Jordan but was worse in every facet of the game except 3 point shooting, which was never a focus of Jordan's.

Forget about comparing them at 24. Because Kobe had Shaq. The comparison should be the Bulls of 86 87 88 and Kobe of Post Shaq Pre Gasol era. Jordan's Bulls teams were more successful and his roster was worse. Jordan also was much more dominant as a player during this pd.

Yeah but even if he was "worse" than MJ, that difference was negligible.

These are subjective terms. I'd chose Jordan but if I had Kobe instead I'd expect the same results.

If Jordan is a 100 then Kobe is a 97 to 98.

Good times.

Good times indeed. Only short lived when MJ retires soon afterwards.

Didn't Johnny Bach say that Michael Jordan was the greatest defensive player he'd ever seen, you ignorant twat?

Kobe Bryant had the most punchable face of anyone in the NBA. I'll give him that.
