Let's not piss them off further by calling any more early rainouts.

I think 42-32 is more likely. That would put them at 85-77 and I think they can win the division with that.

Baseball Prospectus projects the Brewers to beat the Cubs by a game, Brewers at 85, Cubs at 84. But that is based on performance to date, and the trade deadline will change all of that, including making some wins easier as NL teams start selling to AL teams fighting for the second wild card spot.

The bigger question is where are the Dodgers going to finish? They're fucking 61-29 right now, and BP has them winning 105 games.

What the fuck have they done this year to make you think they can play 10 over baseball the rest of the way?

I don't think that either Lackey or Anderson are going to get any more starts. That's probably 4 games of improvement right there.

They have a tough schedule until August 13. If they put up a 5-10 stinker coming out of the game, they're done and Hoyer will start selling at the deadline. If they can survive at .500 until then, they have 23 games in a stretch where Atlanta is their most difficult opponent. They'll have to go 14-7 in that stretch if they're going to win the division.

I've said it before but DeJesus really does look like a Muppet.

I think something like 70% of their second half was against below .500 competition. NL BASEBALL!

Might be 100% when the Cubs are done with them.

Perhaps they should be playing teams that aren't on their schedule to make you happy.

I don't know about that, but it sure is fun to watch and listen to these games again. That first half was a rough watch/listen.

Did Quintana or this thread save the Cubs' season? Hard to say.

Talk about flipping a switch. They beat up two weaker teams, but that was something they were unable to do for the first half of the season.

This is the question. Only time will tell.

I will not blame this thread for the idiotic head first slide by Bryant.

Those other weaker teams had competent pitching.

It's pretty unusual to face six struggling pitchers in a row

Or maybe all the Cubs bats woke like a Bomani Jones Twitter follower.

The Orioles are a train wreck, but the Cubs starters largely held down the offenses too. There are some decent offensive players on the Braves and Orioles. I just wonder what the vibe would be if they had lost that Friday game where they blew an eight run lead.

In any case, I feel a heck of a lot better right now and looking forward to the Cardinals games. It's taking everything in me not to buy tickets for Fridays game. Well that and a 10:00 conference call.

Uh, today's losing pitcher was RA Dickey.

Over his prior five starts his ERA was about 1.20 and he was striking out almost a batter per inning. Don't know why the Braves didn't DFA him prior to today's game...
