Your thesis was Robertson was hot property. All it took was including a superior reliever in Kahnle and a half season Frazier to get a prospect that's wasn't even close to the prices of last year's true premium relievers.

Frazier for Clarkin is a win for the Sox
Robertson for Tito is break-even, though I would rather have Tito Polo than Luzardo and Ward like was offered by the Nats.
Kahnle for Rutherford is a steal. Plain robbery.

The bold part is not true. The underlined part is likely true.

While listening to Hanley and Rozner they replayed an audio clip of Hahn discussing the trade. He stated that he attempted to sell pieces individually and as packages. A package deal was the only avenue to obtaining better than floatsam prospects.

I just want to point out that good dolphin is attempting to shame another fan whose team, currently the World Series Champions, has just won 5 in a row and is clearly in the playoff picture because gd's team traded for a kid who is hitting .281 in A ball.

My how things change

It has nothing to do with your Cubbies. Kirkwood was adamant that I was wrong about Robertson and his contract being tradeable. Unfortunately the evidence seems to have been purged through some illuminati level defense of the man.

I hope you are smart enough to know that mid-season trades of relief pitchers who were as good as Champman & Miller are is an incredibly rarity.

A return other than salary relief? They got the #30 prospect in baseball. The Cubs gave up the #26 prospect in baseball to get Chapman. I guess I need to take back my comment of "I hope you are smart enough..." because clearly you aren't.

Yes, good dolphin's thesis was Robertson was a member of the elite tier of relievers and would be highly desired on the trading market.

He was so highly valued the Washington Nationals had no interest. The Yankees sought Robertson so badly they demanded 2 other pieces and will now have him pitch the 7th inning.

You'll have to show your research on the Nats statement, because not only did they have interest, they had a deal finalized around NYD...and they kept coming back afterwards.

Look at the oldhead thinking the final three outs are the most important of the game.

Very rough.

Course I would be afraid of the Sox too if I were in your shoes.

So your take from a guy saying he tried to sell things individually AND as packages is that he could only sell as packages.

I like your fight. Much better than Caller Bob avoiding the issue. At the end of the day you both end up in the same place but at least you save yourself some dignity.

Correct, no one wanted an overpaid JAG like Robertson as a stand alone piece. Once paired with better players he was palatable. Very easy to understand.

Sox did better for Kahnle and Robertson than the A's did for Doolittle and Madsen.

the talk of the stat heads who live in a world where WAR and BABIP numbers of indvidual players is more interesting than actual MLB team performance...

by trading away everything of value the sox are easily 3 years away from relevance at MLB level... not saying it's a bad thing but it is what it is

I don't think so. The rest of this year will be bad, and barring some breakout performances, 2018 looks to be at least a 90 loss campaign.

They should be good in 2019. Maybe not World Series good, but certainly division/wild card contenders good.

Yes they are.
The baseball world is talking about them dumping any and all of their decent players in order to intentionally lose games.
That is truly something to be proud of as a fan, isn't it?

Rutherford is a light hitting corner outfielder. He's only ranked top 100 now because of the helium from his draft status. But none of his tools scream elite. He's a 4th OF type. Put your dicks away gentleman.

Scouting Summary
Rutherford’s fall on draft day was not due to talent but due to the gravitational pull of signability issues created by pool-rich teams picking in the 30s and 40s. Though old for his high-school class, Rutherford has always hit against his elite peers and often with power. He’s not a center fielder for me, but rather an advanced prep bat with enough offensive prowess to profile in left field and hit in the middle of the order.
That is from the link you posted.

Fucking genius.
