Not certain how it applies here but my friend in CA also never pays them. Apparently, there is some technicality in the way it is some sort of civil matter rather than a criminal or ordinance matter. He said further he throws it away and never opens them and that way he was never served. Simple mail is not enough "service' and they will never go through court costs to recover.

Lol, the state of il mailed me letters for years saying I owed $300 in taxes. I threw them away. 6 years later they put it on my credit report as a $1000 derogatory hit. I tried to fight it but I ended up paying the full amount.

I'd guess that if you go to renew your license it would come up thst there's a "hold" on your renewal until you pay the tickets (and then if you dont pay them they jack em up from like $30/each to $100+/each?)

As I touched on in my first post here, this isn't a "public safety" thing as much as a "look at how much money we can make" thing. To wit, when they first started this program they put up cameras around 3 parks (like Humboldt park, central park, etc) and within either a ~1 month or ~3 month "survey" they saw that they could make like 100 grand off of 3 of these things (over thst small period of time)..... Ergo, up they went en masse!

Of course, they don't count against your driving record cuz they don't want you to lose your license or stop driving (via penalties from the state, insurance companies, or whoever) they just want you to [keep] pay[ing] The Man, Shirley, and therefore, as always, make those checks payable to the department of revenue!

yeah, i had an issue going back almost 15 years now (god) where I sold a beater car to a guy i was working with for like 500. Being young and foolish I never made sure the title was actually transferred....couple months later i start getting unpaid parking ticket notices in the mail - the guy had left by that point - but i was like who cares ? boot the damn thing for all I care, i don't give a shit. Well like 3-4 years later I was trying to complete another city transaction and they wouldn't let me until I paid all of them and at that point i just caved, was like 250$ with all the fines and shit . So yeah, maybe they might not suspend your license but I'm guessing if there's anything else you need to do with the city they won't let you

Yup. It will come up to bite you when you get a new DL or registration sticker. They put holds on those for a damn emissions test that hasn't been passed.

I think all they could do is jack with your credit. Haven't gotten a red light but a speeding one outside Cedar Rapids. Courts just told them recently that they had to take all but one down. The ridiculous amount ic revenue the city was generating was something.

Again, I think these things are categorized in some way that keeps them out of criminal and traffic court. That likely leaves them out of the reach of city/dot enforcement strategies.

They are 100$ then double to 200 in a few weeks, they are mostly for turning right and not coming to a complete stop, the school zones and parks are just as much a money grabbing sham. You want to give me a ticket, do it the right way.. Pull my Ass over, I renewed my DL 2 months ago... The only time I pay them dick is when I pull a city permit, can't pull the permit unless ya square up with them.

Just looked it up, lost the ability to affect credit rating a couple years ago and mayor basically said we could sue in small claims but it isn't worth it for 75 dollars. The more disturbing part of article is they budget for 3 million in revenue from those cameras a year and that is only 50% of the revenue as the company will maintains them gets half. That's a shit ton of money for a town of 125k on a 6 mile stretch of road. Safety my ass.
