From an article in the Trib today about a shooting victim:

In his first 35 minutes at the hospital, Leyva had racked up $21,521 in charges, and by the time he was released three weeks later the bill totaled more than $157,000. For Johnson, who spent barely 24 hours at Mount Sinai, the hospital charges approached $27,000.

Does $1125/hr seem reasonable for emergency care?

How cheap should literally saving a life be?

I don't see any problems there.

I don't see any problems there.

It's also not a price anyone would actually pay even without insurance. The costs are largely inflated because the government will only pay a low percentage of the bill as policy.

You are correct. I assume you would have to adjust for costs of technology and inflation but have a look to the not too distant past. Prior to government intervention and the health insurance explosion how did people pay medical bills and how much more sane were the charges?

Yes. Let's think in those terms so they can charge $100,000+/hr.

under that logic, the millennials preparing your food at mcdonald's should get $1000 an hour--after all, without sustenance, you'd die. Image

How cheap should it be to save a life? What was done? How much did they actually pay?
