I am willing and able to tackle just about any issue. Diagnosis, like with newer autos and computer controls can slow down us old timers. I have found the parts stores and the inter webs (especially specific model/brand message boards) invaluable. When we remodeled, I was forced to sub out some of the trades stuff just for efficiency sake, but will do small jobs myself. I also have come to the realization that some jobs, like exhaust repair on rusty old trucks, is better left to folks with hoists and tools handy. When my wife has something that doesn't work, all I have to do is enter the room or look at the item, and bibgo, it is fixed!

I refuse to hang a ceiling fan for anyone (other than in my own house). If those things aren't supported correctly, they'll come crashing down pretty soon after installation.

Yeah, the internet is invaluable for this stuff. Recently, I was installing some speakers in our backyard and couldn't figure out the receiver. I tried probably a dozen different things. Finally, I went online and found this free tech website. Some guy popped up and instant messaged me and was basically able to troubleshoot why I was having issues. Very helpful. Not sure how they made their money but not my concern.

I lived in Condos as a kid and my dad who did have a house was not a real handy type

So Ive been playing catch up for a long time. I think I've gotten to "replacement level handy" at least

Since we bought the house, I've replaced an outlet that needed to be rewired. I've fixed slats on my deck. Took care of all the goddam pool stuff. I put together every piece of furniture or outdoor stuff and fix little things around the house when need be.

I've recently discovered the magic of power drills and a sauza

The flip side is I dont mind doing a lot of stuff that is probably annoying to many of you (cutting the grass is a pleasure)

I pretty much only ask for help if its a real specialized type thing like Tile or HVAC

I've done quite a bit of home improvement type stuff but almost always under the direction of a friend or relative that knows what they are doing. I could probably hang drywall or lay tile on my own but I prefer to be the worker with a supervisor there to make sure the shit looks good. Plus my go to guys have all the cool tools that make the jobs 100x easier.

I wish my dad had taught me stuff. He's been an electrician at a mill for decades and I had to learn how to change an outlet from one of my friends.

I can generally work my way through most plumbing things. Can figure out most things in a pinch. Won't touch anything with electricity if I can avoid it.

I was helping my parents remodel their bathroom. While cutting out rotted studs with a saw-zall I cut through a water pipe.

Good times....

I'm useless. It's not that most things are difficult to learn, it's just that I don't want to use my house as the testing ground. I was more than happy to hang drywall

That's how I feel.

I'm probably the least handy of my friends but my 2 closest friends are a mechanic and a contractor so I have them do most of the stuff or ask them how to do it. I can follow a you tube video and read directions which seems to help on some minor home repair shit. I'd rather trust my house to someone who is a pro at it rather than do it myself. I will notice and hate any imperfection if I do it myself, I'm like franky T, I can get pissed and frustrated easily when shit doesn't work like it's supposed to.

My dry wall hanging and home improvement work were at my brother in laws. He loves do-it yourself projects (that he never does just by himself). His house looks like it. It's not that it is necessarily bad. It just does not look professional.

We both got bars at the same time. He did it himself and is very proud of it. A splinter of wood stabbed his hand while doing it which required several stitches and a hospital visit. The end result looks like something you would see in an apartment shared by multiple guys who are just out of college.

sites like this usually have affiliate links where they get a commission on any sale generated by a click or a payment for each click even if it doesn't result in a sale.

I am awful at home repairs. Just the worst. I can barely hang a picture correctly. I wish I had learned more about that type of stuff growing up.

I can landscape. Most of the time on weekends though, I'm either hungover or golfing so that shit doesn't get done either.

Dan McNeil put it best on the Score years ago: "I got better things to do with my time on a weekend than sand a door for 4 hours."

I still remember that quote.I think he was in crosstalk with Dan and Mike who had a disagreement about handyman issues around the house.

It's becoming my attitude after finding a nice Polish man who charges next to nothing and does electrical, drywall, & plumbing, and does them well.

And no, I'm not giving out his info. :P

It all depends on the price of the assembly. I put together a grill over the winter in the basement and it probably took a couple hours. Granted, it took me longer than an experienced assembler since I had to figure out the instructions and which part was which.

I remember buying my daughter a bike and it was an extra $10 to get it assembled. That was a no-brainer.

Am I handy? More than most not as much as others. I have done a lot of painting, tiled my kitchen, put in a backsplash, and did a lot of landscaping. I installed fishfinders and a trolling motor on my boat. I do all my outboard motor maintenance. I can usually figure out what I need to do with Youtube and different forums.

Where can I get one of those?

I didn't know people were talking about mundane tasks like landscaping and assembling boxed items. I have resodded an entire backyard on my own, twice (two different backyards). I've put together grills and bikes.

I can't remake an engine on a car, rewire anything in the house or work on plumbing. I don't have an awesome set of tools and my garage is not a workshop.

I can be handy if needed, but admittedly there are other things I'd prefer to do on my nights and weekends than household projects. Recently I did learn to hang 2 interior doors. Took a day, but with help from youtube was able to figure it out.
