So I'm making the 15 minute drive home from my Mom's and I think "What a great time to listen to a ball game". And then I turn on the Cubs game and hear Scremiak. And that pretty much shot that whole premise.

He did have a good line regarding Baez. "Ron, Baez has 17 walks this year. Do you ever see that number increasing in the future?"

I've seen/heard it discussed several times this year more so than previous years ... well, really, I don't recall any discussion about it by anyone prior to this year.

On the one hand it is antiquated and clumsy, particularly in light of both the breadth and the depth of data that's available that didn't exist 10, 20, 50 years ago.

On the other hand, I've not yet heard of an airtight alternate way to hand out wins - which, if done 'right' (whatever 'right' would be) could very well make "wins" an actual stat worth consideration.

I can see that. Or if his rule is 5 innings that's the rule period. I mean, it is unlikely but if guy blows his arm out in first and a long guy comes in and pitches into the 7th he kind of meets the same requirements.
