Why does that annoying unfunny Caller Bob say slide ball?

I think you have the wrong channel on ... though I didn't think Hawk did home games anymore.

Beats the hell out of 'slide piece'.

Wish I understood Spanish. Be interesting to hear big z do color for a while.

And the bullpen dance is outstanding fun.

Adjust your game intake accordingly.

So I'm making the 15 minute drive home from my Mom's and I think "What a great time to listen to a ball game". And then I turn on the Cubs game and hear Scremiak. And that pretty much shot that whole premise.

He did have a good line regarding Baez. "Ron, Baez has 17 walks this year. Do you ever see that number increasing in the future?"

I think his last start he hit one deep for an out and after the game he said "I just don't think it's gonna happen".

And Len bitching about the 5 inning requirement for a starter to get the win because Lester was pulled .

I've seen/heard it discussed several times this year more so than previous years ... well, really, I don't recall any discussion about it by anyone prior to this year.

On the one hand it is antiquated and clumsy, particularly in light of both the breadth and the depth of data that's available that didn't exist 10, 20, 50 years ago.

On the other hand, I've not yet heard of an airtight alternate way to hand out wins - which, if done 'right' (whatever 'right' would be) could very well make "wins" an actual stat worth consideration.

Call a stat "meaningless". Insist on a way to make it actually meaningless.

I would suggest that if a starter doesn't get the win, none be awarded.

Baez hitting a home run there was the worst thing that could have happened.

Also far too clumsy.

Some level of controllable nuance needs to be devised. Smarter people should be able to do so ... perhaps they're doing so right this moment.

I can see that. Or if his rule is 5 innings that's the rule period. I mean, it is unlikely but if guy blows his arm out in first and a long guy comes in and pitches into the 7th he kind of meets the same requirements.

Can we have Big Z throw an inning? Maybe even take an AB.
