A middling band. I've always been a little disappointed in them. Too stadium rock-y, and the lyrics give me nothing. I'll listen along, but something's missing. I've never connected with another band like I did with Nirvana, and so I am predisposed to like Grohl, but he's a kind of a d-bag and a bullshitter.

I'd go see them tomorrow if I had tickets, though.

"Low" and "Aurora" are decent tunes. Their remake of "Baker Street" was kinda fun.

They have catchy tunes. They do not move my soul. They do not have to.

"Walking After You"
"This is a Call"
"Monkey Wrench"

i think their first two albums are solid--especially "the colour and the shape". after that, it gets spotty. but they do put on a good live show.

"Everlong" is his best song. "Monkey Wrench" is an okay punk rock tune. I think Prince showed you at the Super Bowl that "Best of You" is a great song. It's just that Grohl lacks the emotional depth to put it across himself. He's too busy mugging it up and basking in playing drums behind his boyhood heroes.

This.

Still, though, I would rather have a middling, mugging Grohl be a success than about 97% of what else is shoved down everyone's throat.

None. Every song is horrible. Monkey Wrench is one of the worst songs ever written.

"Don't want to beeee yourrr monkeyyyy wrenchhhh". That chorus is gay as shit.

I don't know what I feel about them.

I like a lot of their songs, and I hit the skip button on many of those songs I think I like too.

I guess I've just heard way too much of them.

What about Bruno Mars - That's What I Like?

I have that stuck in my head this morning.

I like the Foo Fighters...they're fun to listen to if you're not trying to "hear" the music.

Bruno Mars may be the greatest of all time.

They are highly overrated, but they have some good songs. Saying the blow is a bit much...
Learn To fly
Everlong
My Hero
I'll Stick Around

All decent songs...but their public status is clearly higher than their musical merit.

There's a low bar because they exist in an era where Arcade Fire is considered great "rock". Foo Fighters aren't nearly as good as Bachman-Turner Overdrive.

The only songs I like are from their first two albums (This is a Call, I'll Stick Around, For All the Cows, Everlong, even Big Me was kind of interesting). You can have the rest. So 20 years after The Color and Shape, they've just been very uninspired. Nothing interesting at all.

Hey, Johnny Park

Ok band, but alot of filler. Everything after their first 4 albums is trash.

So they're not "historically" good? (I hate that adverb.)

As my kid brother said above, "(T)heir public status is clearly higher than their musical merit."

Arcade Fire will be lucky to have the lasting impact of Styx

70s had a better division

With the weak division of the teens, Arcade Fire wins it with a .500 record

Hip Hop became the new rock n roll a while ago

We could see where rock music is, fighting for relevance next to hip-hop. And I love hip-hop. It's the new black entrepreneur. It's about being out there, loud and proud about what you're doing. Selling it on the street corner if you have to. From pent-house to pavement. Advertising the new song in another song. Taking on the world. Meanwhile, a bunch of white, middle-class kids are practicing in Daddy's garage, saying [adopts fake Midwestern whine], "No, man, that is just so un-cool." As hard as it is, as ghetto as it is, hip-hop is pop music. It's the sound of music getting out of the ghetto, while rock is looking for a ghetto.

No. Not remotely. I'd put them on par historically with the 2nd tier of bands from the 70's. BTO, The Eagles, and Thin Lizzy come to mind. They will one day be inducted in the R&R HOF, but that's because Grohl has been juggling Jann Wenner's balls in his mouth since the late 90's...and remember, I like the band...

I hear ya....I did think, with some of the members in the band, they'd be a little different....

Boyd is wise.

The live show is where It's at.

Monkey Wrench is insanely fun to play on the drums.

The difference between Dave Grohl and Phil Lynott is like the difference between a shitburger and God.

I love Thin Lizzy, but I think, when all is said and done, the Foo Fighters legacy will go down a similar path to Thin Lizzy. Remembered as a great band, but not an all time great band.

That's because Grohl played the drums.

He's a much better drummer than people realize, because he's too busy I'VE GOT ANOTHER CONFESSION TO MAKE. His drumming with Queens of the Stone age on Songs for the Deaf is some of my favorite to play. Also, he played on one song for Zac Brown Band's "The Grohl Sessions." I didn't realize it at first, but I kept listening to "Let it Rain" and I kept thinking that there's something unique and interesting about this drumming compared to "All Alright." Sure enough, Grohl sat in on drums for Let it Rain.
