There have been times where I've gone to court on behalf of my cousin's firm when he had a scheduling conflict, usually just to get a new date or occasionally to represent the firm while opposing counsel enters an agreed order. I always wear a suit and tie. Some of these lawyers do dress like fucking bums. And cheap shoes seem de rigueur. In the forcible detainer courtrooms at the Daley Center I can't tell the attorneys from the people who are being evicted.

Amusing anecdote from court this morning: Some guy just kept nodding his head when the judge asked him something, so the judge explained that everything is audibly recorded so he had to answer his questions verbally. When the judge asked if he understood the guy nodded his head in approval.

It was a hoodie.

Ah, so he was the defendant then.

The witness mistook him for Regular Reader.

Been to court twice this year for matters unrelated to me, but related to a loved one.

1) I'm amazed how un-prepared people are with basic documentation in which you know you're going to need to provide.
2) Yes....the attire of people. You are either defending yourself or trying to get something enforced. FFS...take it seriously and clean yourself up before going to the courtroom.

At least I can say....these have been quite enjoyable events for me. Watching the judge address Deadbeats are psychotic parents is great.

1. block or enclose with a wall of bricks
