And we are going down without a whimper vs the worst bullpen in baseball.

If we don't beat Edwin Jackson tomorrow I'm joining ISIS.

yesterday looms large. i don't know why people wrote it off. it absolutely bled into today. and unless edwin jackson is "who we know he is", this could be the beginning of the end for them.

Oh Christ, it's August 4th ... it's not the end of anything for anyone even if they lose 100-4. It doesn't make things easier if they lose but even if they win it'll soon be labelled "meaningless" when the clouds move in front of the sun again.

We can only beat division teams and shit teams in the 2nd half. That's probably enough to win the division. But now the bar has been raised. I can't see us right now beating any team like the Dodgers / Nationals / Rockies / Diamonbacks 3 games out of 5.

2 more months and things can change. Maybe we don't even make the playoffs!? Who knows.

Yeah. Exactly. It's August 4th. These are meaningful games. Yesterday wasn't a blip. Today was proof of that. They have yet to prove themselves against playoff teams. That's a pretty big red flag. One that wasn't there last season.

It's going to be hard to get this homestand at 3-3. Looks more like 2-4 or 1-5. Bad.

Heyward hitting a buck fifty since the break. This isn't 2016 where they can carry that hole in the lineup with a big division lead. He should be a defensive replacement and spot starter at this point.

One Hole? Let's talk about many holes this year to add with Heyward. Schwarber, Russell, Zobrist,Baez.

Why do I fear we're going to lose the series vs the last place giants next week too?

That isn't panicking. I don't panic. I just see the reality. You want to squeeze positives from the last 3 games, go for it. They have been gut checked, and the outcome is negative.

Again. They didn't lose these games last year. This isn't the same writing on the wall.

In the last 3 games they have gone back to being the team they were in the first half. Home run or nothing, average to shitty defense and just all around bad baseball. Until these guys check themselves and get a better approach at the plate its going to be the same thing the rest of the year. I don't understand why most of these guys are now "too good" for singles and doubles.

...and watching the brewers pull games out of their absolute ass the last two nights is even more frustrating.

If they cannot beat Jackson and a rookie in these next two games you have a right to be concerned

If Jackson shoves it up their ass I think I quit for the season and will move on to football. He spotted the brewers about 10 runs last time I saw him pitch.

They are really inconsistent. I am sick of seeing Rizzo and Schwarber hit right into the shift. Also sick of Baez and Schwarber taking three vicious swings at anything thrown up there.

Sure they did. They had a stretch where they played pretty bad, that was the time in which Walt proclaimed the Cards are coming tra la la la

I remember reading a lot on this board last year about how the Cubs were bumslayers.

their worst month was july last year and they were 12-14. they had over .500 percentages against Washington, St. Louis, the Diamondbacks...the only teams they were under .500 against were the Mets and the Rockies.

Yes, they lost games like yesterday last year. But the game on Thursday is a character game, and they failed. i don't recall a game that hit me like that last season. Sure if they go on another stretch of 10-3 or something like that, they've righted the ship. I just don't see that happening now that they're playing better opponents.

They did have a huge lead in the division last year as well, so they didn't have to "feel" some of those losses. right now, every loss puts them at risk. so it is concerning.
