I wonder if he believes that, like da Boo of old in the 4th quarter, the Coob can "decide" to floor the gas pedal in September with what he's decided by then is the absolute best lineup/team he's got available, which would explain (perhaps not excuse) why he's still screwing around with halfwits.

At least then it would sorta explain the reasoning behind some of this.

Who knows though.

Yeah I was just thinking maybe Maddon sees the below .500 schedule for most of the games left, and is just rolling the dice on possible future matchups now because he's confident about GETTING to the postseason.

Peaks and valleys. And Edwards has certainly cratered. Let's hope he isn't used with the game on the line until he gets the feel back.

The managing of the bullpen, and the players themselves have just shit the bed in MANY crucial spots this season. I have zero confidence they can be relied upon in the postseason.

Hank has left by now I'm sure.

I've not seen the game but following thru MLB app.

Did Bryant get injured?

I don't want to see Carl for a while.

Season would have been over if we lost yesterday.

We're still in first. Let's just get to the playoffs. It been difficult this year.

Throwing this loss on Lestah. A true ace would have summoned 10 runs in support from the offense.

I anyone listening to Nick Shepkowski right now?

First he said that winning games in August doesn't really matter. The Cubs won the World Series. They are the defending champions. So what if they lose games in August?

A caller said the Nationals beat the Cubs 2 out of 3 and they even didn't have all of their best players/pitchers, so if the Cubs do make the playoffs they will probably not beat the Nationals. Shepkowski said pitching in the playoffs isn't that important because look at the Phillies when they had Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels. They lost in the playoffs. So the pitching doesn't really matter.

I'm not a big baseball guy. Is there anything else that doesn't matter? So far I have:

1. If you have a 0.5 game lead in August it doesn't matter if you lose, even though you need to win the division to make the playoffs.
2. Good pitching doesn't matter in the playoffs.

I'd rather hear JoRR on 670 debating W/L importance than those mentally disabled takes.

That's why WSCR is a POS station. If it's not Hub or Julie or this idiot, it's someone else making stupid outlandish comments. I think when I was in town back in June, this is the same dolt who said something like 'well it's june, time to start watching the standings'.

It seems like both the Rockies and Nationals have hitters with good average AND long ball power. The Cubs seem to have hr hitters and that's it.

I saw some highlights of the game. Things were feeling good it seemed all game until that 8th. That GSlam that guy hit Carl just hung it. If i was watching live maybe I'd feel different but it just seemed like a bad loss that you'll see happen in your season. one of those games you let get away. just got to make sure you don't have anymore.

They're a lot like that 2004 Cubs team.

Giants just too 2/3 from the Diamondbacks. Fucking bad timing for the Cubs that the worst team in the NL is getting hot.

Take 2 outta 3 vs the Giants and then 2 outta 3 vs the Dbacks. This is our last chance to feel good about our team.
