Not a douchebag, but does sound ridiculous with his over the top pronunciation of players names.

He does call a decent game, but to be honest Joniak is a better listen when he sits in.

My peeve with Hughes is how he dumbs it down at times ("Ron, would you agree that this is a critical point in the game?")

Jon Miller and Pat Hughes are both Northern California guys and about the same age. I know Pat has borrowed a lot of inflections and rhythm from Uecker but maybe there was a Giants broadcaster they both learned from.

Never expected a guy that big to have almost no bass in his voice. His entire vocal profile is in the mid-range.

Well, you know how it is in baseball, you can't get too high and you can't get too low.

Miller is the most boring to listen to. Don't know why this guy is in the hall of fame. Maybe they have the most boring section.

Sounds like some Randy Newman lyrics.

Each call only exists in the context of the game in which it was made. We can't bank good calls and apply them in a different game.

Call games for a long time without being Hawk Harrelson and you get a Ford Frick.

Agree, my favorite of all time. But he does get kind of silly with names. I noticed how he accentuated Ro-ark every time he said it last game. And God forbid he gets one of this quirky Japanese names...

He is a great listen. I'd say his uniform descriptions and name pronunciations are my least favorite parts of an otherwise flawless broadcast. I have listened so many times that I can tell his teaser home run call from a real home run call (same with fair/foul), and the only time I am off is when Pat is truly fooled by the ball path.

So, why do news anchors/reporters...and Pat Hughes try yo pronounce Hispanic/Latin American names in an "authentic" accent but do not do the same for names of German, Irish, Polish, Swedish, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, etc., origin?

That seems odd to me.

You want him to say "Anthony Rizzo" with the Watto accent?

it is also a halfway thing. he's getting the accent in the correct place but the pronunciation isn't right. I dunno. sounds very weird to me.

Queasy's is a legitimate question. Adopting a separate, distinct linguistic style to pronounce certain surnames is an oddity.

Pierzynski has Americanized his pronunciation, though. If he were actually from Poland and not goober-ass Florida, perhaps it would be pronounced closer to the actual Polish, and where is Bob getting "Perchinkski" from, anyway?

Nobody adopts a German accent to pronounce "Max Kepler".

Beardown has been on the Terry Boers/ Laurence Holmes thing for years.
