5 starts as a Cub
2-2
4.20 ERA
2-3 in games he started

Not quite the difference maker he was billed as

He needs to start willing his offense to score more runs. Any pitcher who gives up three earned runs shouldn't be expected to win.

I would say that a starting pitcher who gives up 3 runs in the first inning has a very, very low chance of getting the win. The chances of the team winning the game might be little better, but its still likely a very poor win%.

Besides, JLN showed us all sorts of charts and graphs that shows how often Quintana wins and how great a pitcher he is when he gets 3 or more runs of support. That is what he got last nite. Whoops!

Fine as in a 3-5 record with an ERA near 4.

Quintana will look good if the Cubs offense gets rolling because he will usually not get blown up and go 6 innings. So he is like Jason Hammel

They traded Eloy Jimenez (for sure the next Manny Ramirez) for Jason Hammel

Cubs fans are very angry and on edge this morning. With the Brewers, Cardinals, and Pirates all within 3.5 games of the Cubs, I can't blame you guys for being worried.

Confirmed.

From the Trib yesterday...

There was some speculation as to whether the offended neighbor who typed the letter was a Sox fan. The White Sox are not a very good baseball team at the moment.

As of Tuesday afternoon, they were in last place, 21 games under .500, and jockeying with the Philadelphia Phillies and San Francisco Giants to claim the worst record in Major League Baseball and a shot at next year's No. 1 draft pick. The Sox also have recently traded away several players who were popular among fans.

The Cubs, meanwhile, have been playing good ball since the All-Star break. The reigning world champions have moved into first place and recently took three out of four games from the White Sox in the annual Crosstown Classic.

Was the complaint letter an expression of utter frustration by a White Sox fan?

Im not sure I could ever get to a "worried" level ever again. Maybe the WS win is too fresh in my mind but its all gravy at this point.

Actually, he got 2 runs of support. 3rd run was scored after he left the game.

Correct.

Flapjacks, gravy is the stuff they put on biscuits.

I'd like to congratulate Theo on finally replacing Samardzija in the rotation

If he's so good why does he so consistently allow more "run support" than the guys he faces, most of whom I assume you would argue are not as good as he is?

Cmon man. That Blach guy was dealing last night and holding that 30 games under Giant offense in check is no easy task .

If the pitcher he is facing is not as good as he is, his offense should be able to put up more than two runs they scored while he was in the game. Problem solved.

 Quintana gives up 3 runs in the first inning, and Cubs fans are bitching about the two runs of support he received. Makes no sense.

I'd say a pitcher that is supposed to be as good as Quintana shouldn't have any problems shutting down an offense as putrid as the Giants either .

Newsmakers from Tuesday's action:

Eloy Jimenez, OF, Winston-Salem (White Sox): Jimenez hits his sixth home run in just 23 games since being traded to the White Sox. With 14 home runs this season he has tied his career high and he's hitting .369 since the trade.

Exactly. Which is why I don't think Quintana is very good.

Sox fans bitching about a Cubs player while continuing to post in Cub threads- makes total sense.

Yup.

Both sides are happy with the strong defense of how good Quintana has been for them.

Where does the narrative of "pitching in the national league is easier than pitching in the american league" fit in here?
