He will never finish the books. The TV show will be the definitive end of the series.

I think they were stalling a bit for a time while George was writing his books. It didn't help that the books split the timeline and dealt with some characters only and then the next book dealt with the other characters on the same timeline. Not good books, BTW.

Now, I feel like they are just done with the show and they are racing to the finish. They've given up on Martin and the books being finished and just want it over. Not a criticism because they are really getting to it. This season has been very good so far considering the beginning of seasons are usually pretty slow. I'm excited about what is to come.

well yeah, they were following the details of the books, which had a lot going on. they're wrapping stuff up, and my only criticism which is consistent with the general critics' consensus: everyone travels way too fast to be believed.

i do hope the rest of the season's episodes are longer though. i really didn't want the last one to end.

Im a little squeamish with castration, but I liked the overall Ramsay psychological/physical torture of Theon thing. Maybe it did go on too long.

I think the travel criticism isn't a big deal.

It's basically a country the size of England, at least that's how I always thought of it. It's like getting around a smaller California. Yes, they move too fast but who wants to see people on the road. Suspend some disbelief. There are walking dead, dragons, and smoke assassin babies.

the criticism is that they're only doing that now. like it's obvious they want to get it overwith.

it used to be that when they were off, they'd leave them for an episode or so while dealing with other characters pertinently. now it's like 'here i am in dragonstone; now here i am in highgarden. woosh!'

and, it's much, much larger than that.

Dragons ok. Zombies ok. Face transformation ok. Guys made of stone ok. Guy who can see everything that has ever happened ok. Unrealistic travel speeds based on current technology WTF!

The torture scenes struck me as gratuitous once it became clear that Ramsay's character was the incarnation of evil, a purely one-dimensional figure devoid of any complexity or redeeming/engaging human qualities. It almost seemed as though the purpose of the subplot was to punish the audience for watching Theon's torture.

It's a good thing Ramsey never broke out the chainsaw.

I remember in episode 1 or 2, maybe even three Ned was talking about the size of the realm in miles, I thought at the time it was small , like half the size of Texas.

GRRM will die and Sanderson will come in to finish off and it will be awesome. He's the fantasy writer closer.

I found the quote I was looking for, it wasn't Ned it was Bolton. He says to Ramsey look 700 miles miles north, 400 miles that way and 300 miles that way. Then he says the north is bigger than all the other kingdoms combined.

The show is not giving out the when of these events happening. Has it been one fortnights or two since the Unsullied sailed for Casterly Rock? Now they they have to walk back to the east coast, how long will that take?

I think Dr. Branhattan(see what I did there) needs to start filling in the blanks. At least give some damn insight on the White Walkers. He went from showing emotion during his time jumps, to being stiffer than Fit Findlay on a bad hair day.

Only 4 episodes this season and then who knows when until the final 7 shows. A lot of pieces being moved off the board, but Blondie will head to Kings Landing and take what is left of the Kingdom. A parting question, do the Dothraki have winter gear? Asking for a friend.

Quick question from season 1, what exactly did Jon Snow not know about the Wall that he thinks Ned should have told him? That its for misfits and criminals?

I only remember that Ned told Jon as he was going to the Wall that Ned would talk about Jon's mother the next time that they were together.

Right.

But Jon said something to Tyrion like "you were the only one who told me the truth" and that his father didnt.

Season 1 is awesome. I love Robert.

I just rewatched the Hound and Arya episode in the bar yesterday. I love that scene.

I'm going to have to eat every fucking chicken in this room.

Here Here! And one of the best writers working today. I think His Wheel of time books were the best of the series.

I think Jon was under the assumption that it was a noble job and looked up to his uncle, The imp told him it was all misfits and fuckups.

Yea, I think that was it. A little over dramatic, Jon Snow.

Yes.

The Wall was romanticized for Jon and he thought it was more noble than it turned out to be.

EDIT: What Tres Uno Dos said.

Watching some old ones, I have to ask....Does Robb Stark have ANY redeeming qualities? Is he more likeable in the books?

In the show he's just kind of a pompous asshole who cant keep an oath

In the show he wins every battle he's in. That's his redeeming quality. None of the Stark people have personalities

I think Ned, Kat and Arya are all likable.

Arya's likeable. Ned was too dumb to like. Kat also had little to no personality.

Having to start a war because your dad was beheaded isn't reason to brood?
