Solo radio is just the fucking worst. It doesn't matter how good the host is. I'm really disliking this trend if Parkins solo every time Spiegel is off

Larry was scheduled to host with Parkins, but he just stood in the hall the whole time

I will add it here because there really is no other spot. The Bernsie promo they are running is just dumb and a good reminder not to listen. He is going on about how some strawmen fans I presume are yearning for Cutler now that he is back in Miami. "Blah, blah, blah DON'T BE DUMB!" Naturally, you also get Goff quietly doing his soft Terry in the pause, "Don't be that guy".

Less Spiegel is good (and also a fine accountant) but all Parkins is not good.

Maybe Spiegel could be a part timer?

Spiegel and Rozner are pretty much the two worst radio hosts ive ever heard in my life, but I'd prefer either in there over one man radio. You need a cohost or else it just sounds like a stupid lecture from the host.

I really will never understand how some enjoy solo radio.

When I began listening to sports radio it was Dan Patrick and then HUGE. I listened to like 3 days of HUGE and he got replaced by MJH...and the rest is board history

Bernstein has also been solo a couple times over the last month. Is this a trend for the Score? I prefer a 2nd guy on the show. I prefer Parkins solo over Bernstein. Parkins' show this weeks have been solid.

hey, RPB may like mayonnaise, but he owns it.

Solo radio sucks. It's just terrible. Too much dead air.

Maybe with the ratings decline they are only using subs already on the payroll? With that they may not always be available.

Makes sense. Do we have ratings data? I know the morning shows were posted.

I just watched the "30 for 30" on "Mike and the Mad Dog." Interesting history, as WFAN first tried a bunch of national solo hosts (e.g., Jim Lampley, one of the Gumbles), and it did not work.

What made it work was pairing Mike and Russo and how they debated topics from a local viewpoint. That's what is now missing in MANY of these shows--the hosts just agree with each other the entire show.

Spiegel and Parkins will occasionally debate, but most of the other shows take one opinion and then beat up on people that dare call in to disagree. A good sports debate is fun, and good radio. I think the Heavy Fuel Crew was pretty good at that, and even North and Jiggets back in the day.

Part of the problem is social media and the topics they discuss. In the past, it would be very easy for the HFC to take both positions (each taking a side) even if they didn't believe one side. It would be good radio.

Now you have topics they want to discuss that are child rape and serious and no one will be contrarian on sensitive stuff. As for general talk they also do not want to be pinned down by twitter for instance for just arguing another side.

PM slots and overnight....solo is fine.
Any of the drive slots or mid-day should be 2-person booth.

Boers and Bernstein used to pride themselves on subverting the trope of "one guy thinks this and the other thinks that" contrived radio debate. It's something they would openly acknowledge, that they weren't going to lie to you and force arguments where they didn't exist. That's good, and I respect that, but it falls apart when one person doesn't have anything to add, or when one person is Laurence Holmes and becomes consumed with flattering his partner and showing off how with-it he is and you aren't. Also, while it made sense that two hosts weren't never going to Embrace Debate and disagree on every conceivable topic, it was just as strange to agree that much, too.

Murph was pretty much the only host I enjoyed solo (not counting Les).

I'm not advocating fake debates (sad!). When I'm with my friends, we have honest debates on sports. I was out east this week, and there were two radio guys debating whether Kapernick should be signed or not. They both made points, and it was interesting (I pulled into a parking garage and listened until a commercial break--when was the last time you did that for a Score show?). You would never hear that debate on B&G, they would both just side with Kapernick.

There could be honest debates on who should start Game 1 for the Bears at quarterback. Honest debate about Maddon's managing decisions this year. Honest debates about the Sox rebuilding efforts and how long fans have to wait to see some progress. The list goes on.

I just don't seem to hear that much, and I don't think it's just Twitter. Perhaps Twitter makes them stick to a position they tweet. I think the real problem is that most of the hosts there have become mini-Bernsteins. Geez, I sound like Beardown, or maybe Beerdown, but I don't mean to.
