Seeing as I go to the movies about twice every 6 years this seems like a ripoff.

I can't really wrap my head around this one, it's like an April Fool's joke 5 months too late.

Same. How is this possible? It costs that much for a matinee on a weekday.

The business plan seems to be to lose a lot of money on this and get people hooked on it as the only way to go see a movie and then negotiate with the theaters and then raise the price some to become the way people see movies now.

So the movie house folks are saying screw the movie makers I'll seek outrageously priced concessions?

I don't think theaters make much on the price of a ticket. I believe their business plan is to make 1,000% profit on popcorn and soda

I would assume it is a concession grab and I'd also assume they would target people like me that would get 5 of these for the whole family (I'm assuming you need one per attendant but I'm not going to go look) and then be lucky to get to 1 movie a season on average.

I don't think this is the movie theaters doing this. It's an outside company who is going to pay for the movie on your behalf.

So, if you go to 4 movies a month, this service will charge you $10 a month and pay the movie theaters $40 a month. A lot of these types of things build in losing tons of money at the start with big funding to build up a user base and get market share.

All of a sudden, when there are one million people on the service they can say to the movie theaters "If you want to continue, you'll have to accept $5 a ticket" and then they raise the price to $20 a month or whatever is profitable.

The movie theaters are in a tough spot because signing up for this is basically setting themselves up to be at the mercy of this service down the line.

wow, classic cinemas is on board. we usually go 2-3 times a month and see the 3-4p matinees, so it's always $13 for 2. hm...

I'd have some interest in this. Even if I don't go all the time, I usually am sure to see the Oscar contenders during the cold and
winter months so I figure I go to at least 8-10 movies a year which is close to breaking even. If I had the card I would likely see
some that I wouldn't normally go and pay for.
