Our Communist mods won't allow a poll in the food section, so we can just post our preference here.

I know MANY will act like I'm a Neanderthal for this, but I'd take a great burger any day over a steak.

Great steak every time. No matter how good the burger is, I always have to dress it up.

I suppose you could take a great steak, grind it up, quick sear over the coals and it would make the chewing easier. Or you could just chew it yourself.

That's what makes a burger great. The possibilities are endless. Steak can only compete on tacos.

I've really been trying to watch what I eat since my last doctor visit (not great), and so I've been eating a lot more greens and lean meat... a strip steak is a special treat... and I dress it up with all sorts of things... but I still crave a burger way more than I ever have a steak.

Nothing is better than a great steak.

I'd take a great burger over a good steak though.

One of my problems with steak is that as I've gotten older, I really only want about 10-12 ounces of it. I don't need a 16 ounce steak, and especially not a 24 or 32 ounce steak. But I am not a fan of a filet. So as a result, i don't go to steak houses that often.

One exception is Bern's in Tampa. I've been there three times over the years with family, and it's outstanding. The incredibly cheap French wines help, we usually get a nice Rhone from the 1970s for $35-50/bottle. Their "special chateaubriand" is as close as I've gotten to what I had in Argentina in terms of cut and flavor. A 22 ounce costs that's been aged about six weeks costs ~$115 including soup and salad and feeds two.

Yeah, I've had steaks that melt in your mouth on expense accounts... especially in Texas. And the best steak I've ever had was in Orlando, but the name of the place escapes me now.

For the purposes of this discussion, we aren't talking world class steaks that cost $100.

Steak is in the rotation three or four times a week for me (sometimes I'll add a bit to my eggs in the morning). I rarely eat burgers because I like a lot of bad toppings added (cheese, bacon, bbq sauce). I feel like I need potato chips with the burger too. I'm very happy and feel better after eating a steak with a little salt and pepper. Every so often with sauteed mushrooms and onions.

I am.

So, great burger vs. sort-of great steaks.

Okay, but those steaks have to be compared to $30 Kobe burgers.

Del Frisco's? One of the best ribeyes I ever had was at the one in Orlando.

Ribeye is too fat.

In a restaurant, I prefer a great burger; at home, a great steak.

I'd still go steak.

Plus it's not that difficult to cook yourself a great steak at home. Get a nice cut of meat for $20 or less, get a nice sear on it and cook to your temp. Just need to have your technique down but it's about the easiest thing in the world to grill.

I just looked it up... it was a place called Charley's. It was a bone-in Kansas City strip. I used to love ribeyes, but for some reason, over the past few years, I've grown to like a leaner cut.

But goddamn do I love burgers.

For a smaller steak, Income Tax is great. Weird name for a restaurant though.

I once cooked a flat iron steak in a cast iron skillet and it surprised me how good it was. My son said it was the best steak he had ever eaten. He's 10 so I had that in my favor.
