Three points...

1.) Mustang Rob = my new favorite poster.

2.) Personally, I prefer Gears of War to Duck Hunt where I can use a chainsaw bayonet. I hope Darkside has a good safety course on that one.

3.) And finally, I just hope they don't ban monkey kissing...

Hey Ivan, I'd like to offer you a shot at the range with me.
Pack a lunch, and come on out. You can try my NEW 9mm at the pistol range, then we can shoot some clay pigeons with my 12 guage.
I'll wager that after you get my safety lecture, you'll have a blast!
I'll even buy your ammo and pigeons. You wanna do it?

That's cool of you Darkside, but I'll have to pass. Just not my thing...

Get that FOI updated ASAP, I'm hearing delays longer than 30 days.

Dupage is problem pretty good for gun owners since it's heavily republican.

Note taken. Avoid DuPage as much as possible. Where else?

Illinois has about the strictest Gun restrictions in the entire union.
It's 1 of 12 without concealed carry (that's right 38 states allow concealed carry! and you worried about DuPage)
It's 1 of only 14 that disallow loaded transport.
You cannot own a handgun in Chicago, Chicago Hts, East STL, and a handful of other communities.

Illinois, one of the toughest gun control laws states, and still, theres gun violence.

Illinois, perfect example of how gun control laws do not stop gun violence.

OK Darkside, what's the example of a state where liberal gun laws have stopped gun violence?

Truth is you'd never know how violent it could be without gun control laws. Population growth, economics, education, and other demographics all play into crime rates... not just whether a state has gun control laws. Sure, gun control won't stop violence, but you can't say for certain it wouldn't help.

I just hope they don't ban tablets. I ain't never heard a nobody smackin' a fool wif a tablet

By liberal, do you mean allowing guns?
Or by Liberal do you mean controlling guns?

Truth is most states are much more lenient with their gun laws than Illinois.

I simply can't understand how someone thinks that outlawing guns prevents them from being used...

"Hey I'd really really like to shoot someone and kill them, maybe even rape em while they're dead, but it's illegal to get a gun"

If people want them to commit crimes, they will get them illegal or not.

It's not really debatable, gun control laws only prevent the law abiding from getting guns, and the law abiding ain't someone to worry about having a gun. it's so simple.

Don't get carried away and overstate your position. Even the NRA is for gun control laws. What you mean is a gun ban, right?

By that logic it's not worth outlawing anything that is potentially hazardous to the community because people who really want them will find a way to get them. Great logic... let's make anthrax legal while we're at it... let Iran have nuclear arms... and bring back Ford Pintos.

Darkside, I don't mean to disparage you or your gun freak bretheren. I am of the opinion that I would feel less safe with a gun in my house than more safe. Full stop. I also feel more safe if my neighbor didn't have a gun. If I'm gonna get robbed, I'm gonna get robbed, but I still think that probability is waaaaaaaaaaaay less than my kids finding a way to break into a gun closet or the neighbor's gun closet or my neighbor's neighbor's gun closet and causing trouble. I don't feel safe carrying a gun and I don't feel safe with you carrying a gun no matter how much you preach safety.

I sympathize that there is a cultural thing and a hobbyist thing about hunting. Great. Give 'em shotguns and low caliber rifles. This semi-automatic and high caliber bullet bullshit is crazy. I'm all for protecting personal liberties as long as it doesn't infringe on me raising my four children in a safer society.

Hold on there. I know we should prevent felons, mentally unstable, and domestic abusers from buying guns.

I am not in favor of a complete gun ban - way to impractical and un-enforceable.

I hold a strong belief that most illegal guns in this country started out as legal weapons, and through owner negligence and theft end up illegal and untraceable.

I favor a more thorough background check (much like the British model).
Criminalization of owner & dealer negligence.
Stiffer penalties, including forfeiture of ownership rights for violation of the existing laws.
Proper taxation of the gun owners to offset the societal cost of their gun ownership.

In my mind is pretty simple.
You're much more incentivised to take proper care of a $10,000 piece of property than a $249.99 one.

Don't call me a freak. I am not name calling here.
Do you really think that you keep gang bangers frfom owning handguns if they're illegal? Here's a fun thing to do, take a look at how many handguns were confiscated in Chicago, where they are illegal already.
Banning crack does not stop crackheads from buying crack
Banning guns does not stop a criminal from buying a gun.
Ban them all you want. There will still be handgun violence. Some theorize there will be more, since the criminals who illegally own guns know damn well that their marks are not able to defend themselves.
If you don't want a gun, cool. Works for me. Don't buy one. You're not a criminal anyhow, so I have no problem with you owning a gun, but cool, don't. I would never force a gun into your hand.
I was properly educated on what a gun can do at an early age. I was taught what they can do. they were never hidden from me. That's a mistake a lot of parents make, hiding their guns, instead of educating on them, makes guns seem mysterious and adult, not the weapon they could be.

Technically, I called your gun toting brethren freak... but I apologize anyway. I still don't see why owning a gun makes you less likely to be robbed or attacked. It's not like you carry them around. Even if you heard an intruder, you wouldn't have time to unlock your gun closet, load your weapon and defend yourself. Do you really feel safer with a gun in your house?

I'm in favor of Mustang Rob. :salut:

My gun ain't in no damned safe.
I have a fully loaded 12 guage right under the bed. Have for 5 years.
My 9mm will be in the nightstand. Loaded. Ready to go.
I don't have children. These things will change when children are in the Darkside Estates.
I never bring out my guns for company.
I don't brag on them, or play with them. They are deadly weapons, they are not toys, they're not jokes, punchlines. You cannot take a bullet back that you send down that pipe.
It does not make you less likely to be attacked. It could make you more likely to survive one... Sure makes my wife feel better when I'm out of town on business.

I get it. They're not for you. I can honor that.

As most of us here can honor your right to responsibly own a gun, Darkside.

What I have an issue with is the concept that gun anarchy would somehow create a safer environment than the current gun control laws.

Mentally Ill should not be able to buy a gun.
Felons should not be able to buy a gun.
I'm on board with that.

Hey...um.

they're kinda fun to shoot at a target in a controlled environment too....

there's a phrase. many evil metal bands have used it as a lyric.

"the power of a gun"

both a negative and postive statement.

but, hey. I just think it's fun to shoot a 9mm at a target for an hour every couple of months. and i think the early 1900s, 6 and 8 shooters that my grandpa gave my dad are also sweet.

simple for me. simple = me. whatever.
