something about this doesn't seem right I don't think that they would suspend Jason for something like that

He's out again today, which I think lends credence to the theory that the rumored "soft suspension" is bullshit. Maybe he's just cashing in some vacation days before the Bears/Bulls seasons begin.

Didn't he JUST take a vacation? It seems like he's off the air more than on

We're gonna need a bit more than that. Why did they ask him to take days off? He didn't do anything remotely wrong. It was bad radio, in my opinion, but that is what B&G like to talk about anyways.

Like, specifically, aside from the general "driving away advertisers"? Not sure, such things would be described in the language of his contract.

No one knows that for sure. If the sponsors applied pressure because Goff went off on racist white guy then Goff and his "people" have a gripe also.
All this fucking speculation is useless without Beardown

Could it be because he said he drives a Land Rover despite doing reads for a car dealership that says he drives a specific (not LR) kind of car?

Why? Why can't sponsors not want their business or its products/services associated with politicized content? What about that gives rise to a legitimate gripe?

You know this line of thinking implies that the sponsors somehow owe sponsorship to Jason Goff, right?

Sponsors don't like being mentioned in the midst of a controversial rant.

Yeah I'm a little confused if that's true . Lil Danny rants and raves about shit all the time and he gets nothing but they ask Goff to take off after that?

"I'm doing paid reads" in the midst of that rant sounds an awful lot like "sponsors support this kind of radio"

Why not just tell him to knock it off instead of telling him to take days off?

No, we don't know for sure, but what we can be confident in is that Jason isn't allowed to do or say whatever he wants without reprisal from his employer. And given what we know about how radio stations make money, it stands to reason that a sub-section of the part of his contract detailing acceptable reasoning for that reprisal has to do with addressing and handling sponsors directly or indirectly. Jason has had a bit of trouble with sponsors in the past, right?

What he said really wasn't all that controversial. He accused the guy of being a racist. That was an inference that anyone would have made given the circumstances.

It seems like any reprimand would have been related to being an angry black man more than anything. That would potentially open the score up for lawsuits given the fact that Bernsie has been allowed to do that for about 12-15 years now.

They do support that kind of radio. As has been pointed out by others, this is happening on a daily basis. Goff gave a heartfelt reaction to the call. On a sports talk station, there is no reason to even take that call. But this show relishes in calling out "the ignorant".

The only thing I didn't agree with in Goff's reply was his comment that other hosts are complicit if they don't talk about it.

Eh, there's a bit of a difference between running ads on a show and a host implying "the sponsors of this show pay me for THIS". The former is merely being associated with a show and its content, the latter is being painted as an advocate of it. Republicans buy shoes, too.

If I were a host on a different show that's wherein I'd tell him to go fuck himself. He has no right direct content on other people's shows although he shouldn't have that problem at the Score .

I can't speak for sponsors. However, I always liked Mac because I thought he was authentic. In Jason's rant, I felt he was being authentic, and I really enjoy that in a host. While I don't agree with many of his opinions or political talk on that show, I would support such heart felt exchanges. I was pretty pissed when he mentioned being pulled over three times. That's just makes me so jaded about law enforcement.

Goff's suspension might not be about the Race talk.

It might be about him saying he has a Range Rover. I remember Bernstein saying that Goff had a Range Rover a while back. That was when Goff was doing a commercial for a dealership. A dealership that didn't sell Range Rover's.

Goff got mad at Bernstein saying, "Trying to wreck my deal?"

Maybe that dealership didn't like him mentioning his actual car instead of the one that the dealership pays him to sell.

Yeah. It's pretty established in the industry that hosts have plane tickets to Florida the next morning sitting at the ready in case a sponsor gets mad they yelled at a racist.

Nah. The lady's fine. She would have survived at "THE CRIB" without him from 1-6 pm. If she's in that bad of shape, he wouldn't be back at work on Friday. So that's bullshit.

This is how the Score does things. They don't officially announce suspensions. They didn't do it for Bernstein. They just tell the sponsors that they're suspending people.

So Goff was told by Mitch to dummy up about it. And the car company was told Goff had to sit for 2 days and they gave them a discount on the next commercial package.

There it is!!!!

I figured it out again. What would you guys do without me? You'd always be in the dark.

While I don't think the call was staged, it is interesting how much the Score pounced on this as something to promote. Boers and Bernstein with Jason probably took this same call, more or less, at least twenty times: blah blah blah, well I'm from da sout side, it's DA BLACKS, so on, so forth, and Dan called the guy ignorant and Jason jumped in to do the same. But now Jason is putting the world to rights on AM radio and the world needs to hear it and NO SIR WE WILL NOT BACK DOWN FROM USING OUR PLATFORM. Maybe it's just a different world with the ascension of corporate social media and Trump and all that. I don't know, the world is a terrible place.

I get the sinking feeling that Jason, from time to time and at various times, is trying to spin a topic or a caller interaction into a viral social media moment. When a topic is particularly search-worthy, it seems like his speech is just dripping with "people will be listening to this for years" reverence, and he begins dialing up the desired profoundness of his observations. It's "Real. Important. Radio." for the social media age, with ready-made keywords for SEO.

That's not exactly a denial is it ? from what hth said, it was a "mutually agreed upon couple days off". Goff going to play the semantics game .

Yea, beat me to it.

If it's a suspension, they are certainly sending mixed messages to Goff. They are carrying him around on their shoulders on social media.

Have you happened to hear the "Score 25th Anniversary" moments that they play?

It's pretty much hosts shitting on callers.

Great history. Nothing happened at the station before Bernstein.
