I donate to a lot of stuff usually because someone asks me to. No more usually than $20 to $50 depending on the cause or if I like the person. In general my time and money are usually spent on at risk youth. Some of you lost wagers to me probably know of a couple of programs because you made donations.

I just had this conversation with my wife, as I used to donate to all these disasters. However, with FEMA in place, my taxes are already paying for a relief effort. I also saw a Texas Congresswomen on TV stating that she's going to get everyone monetary relief "right away, so there are no delays." (Sorry I don't remember her name).

So, I'm paying for FEMA (remember the thousands of trailers they gave away after Katrina). And, this Congresswomen is going to get the residents additional funding that I'm paying for. Do they even need any additional funding? Does it do any good, other than letting the CEO of the Red Cross fly first class and make $400k per year (IIRC, those were from Elizabeth Dole's days at the Red Cross).

I kind of hate how cynical I've become.

a girl at work just told us how she made a huge donation to the ASPCA so they could take care of all the animals and help find all their homes. i was like, hell these stranded people need something to eat. made the shit list today.

Donate to the Salvation Army. They do good work and dont pay people millions of dollars to do the work.

Their congressional delegation is apparently asking for $150 Billion. That seems absurd. Any truth to the rumor that Texas never bothered to invest in flood mitigation so that they could keep their taxes artificially low and depend on us taxpayers to bail them out? Should be a loan. Or at least spending offsets as most GOP lawmakers have demanded in the past.

Yeah that was part of it. It also included funds for Head Start, which they couldn't in good conscience approve. A bunch of the Head Start program locations needed to be rebuilt.
