That's cool shit, props to you both. Break a leg, Jeff.

W_Z, what did you feel was your best performance? Like, could you feel the crowd reacting to you or do you just hit your marks and go?

I don't know, I'm 46 and figure "WTF, why not?" I apologai in advance if anyone ever has to endure witnessing it.

i think i have it on my youtube somewhere, but my best performance was pretty short and the crowd was well oiled. i don't think the material was all that strong but they really fed off it nicely. and that's all that matters. once you get the first laugh, the rest can come easy. and if you can fire off a few good ones in a row, and get them on a roll, you can pretty much say whatever you want and people will laugh. it's just that energy that happens. that's what makes it intoxicating, too.

getting that first laugh can prove to be the most difficult thing though. those first few seconds are always the hardest. but yeah sometimes it's not about how good your material is, it's how good the crowd feels it.

Good luck, jeffro. I say go for it at least once. Make sure you have your material ready and be confident regardless of how the crowd reacts.

I saw W_Z do stand up a few years back at Riddles. There was some good, some in the middle, and some really bad thru the nite. I remember Z got cut short (At least I thought so), but he had some funny moments. For the most part-- unless you get some drunk assholes-- the crowd is full of people that know or know of the comics so they are respectful of the fact that its very much an amateur night. It tends to be similar for Open Mic music nights as well.

Yeah yeah yea-eeah, every Cub fan in the world is gay

that's good advice Frank.

I have often thought about it Eaglo, but I would probably be better as a joke writer. Give it a shot.

MANY comics use setups like 'My wife tells me ...' or 'I saw this guy', but Jeff's tight five (hey buddy) will include the phrase 'so I'm on this message board, and ...'.

I don't think I would have a problem with getting in front of the crowd or creating material. I worry about the delivery.

I frequently appear before hostile crowds. I would think the skill is transferable to stand up. Here is my thought: it can be a very liberating experience if you begin with the mindset that everyone hates you and there is nothing you can say or do that will change it. You can create comedy from that absurdity and have zero fear of failure when there is no chance of success.

It is almost like the last scene in a movie where the hero is cornered, realizes escape is not possible and decides to go down swinging.

I'm not saying you have to hate your audience, although some comics have had success with that mindset. I would say the analogy is that you are doing stand up for Statler and Waldorf from The Muppets.

Thanks everyone for the advice. No, I didn't bang her but.........perhaps if I'm funny enough or she offers to have me up for coffee.

"So uh, message boards.........what's up with that?!!!"

Metra puking.

Perhaps a bit where a man has to puke whenever a train comes by or when he's near a train station?

Opening from Pasta (circa 1978): Thanks everybody. It's my 2nd time up here. I thought the crowd loved me the first time. I kept hearing "more, more". It turns out it was some guy yelling "whore, whore". He was trying to flag down a waitress.
