.801 is pretty good for a SS.
I never said it was bad. .801 is not "exceptional" and Steve was too dumb to qualify his statement with something like "Baez is a pretty decent offensive player for a middle infielder"

Controlling the strikezone.

Ok, just admit that if a Cub fan said something similar you would mock him until the end of time.

I wouldn't. And that's why as much as I make fun of him, I don't think Schwarber is a bust. Ultimately, his eye is too good.

Jimenez otoh...he's special. The list of players in all of baseball I'd be willing to give up Eloy for is very short. Can't believe he was had for mediocre, over the hill, Quintana.

Define very short. Less than 30?

If you're a Cubs fan you would trade Baez for Eloy no questions asked. Moncada is a bit more blurry, probably a wash.

Probably around 30 is when I start finding reasons against it. I know right I would not trade Eloy straight up for anyone the Sox have dealt away in the past year. A lot of guys who are better or more talented, like Harper, Kershaw, Stanton etc. have contract situations that really hinder their value.

You called him a bust yesterday so you can see my confusion.

Did I call him a bust yesterday? I may have, but I was just reveling in crushing my bet with Nas. I need him to play in 15 more games though.

I think Baez is a utility player but his power makes people want him to be more. I will say it's hard for me to think of a good comp for him.

I'm not sure I'd trade Baez for Jimenez, 30 seems low.. The cubs have probably 4 maybe 5 guys on their team that you would trade Jimenez for without hesitation.

Bryant
Rizzo
Hendricks
Contreras

Don't agree with Hendricks. He has no margin for error, when he loses just a little off his fastball he'll be toast.

I'd probably agree with ya, he continues to prove me wrong though.. The guy is pretty solid, even with his 89 mph heater.

Bryant? Yes, most likely.
Rizzo? No.
Contreras? Maybe, but I lean against it.
Hendricks? Absolutely not.

It's very hard for hitters in Birmingham and Eloy is just wasting the competition. He's killing it again tonight.

I wouldn't trade the best overall prospect in baseball (Acuna is his only real competition) for a 28 year old first baseman, an injury prone catcher or a 27 year old righty who can barely get over 90 and has a NL ERA of 3.50 right now.

You're disingenuous or foolish, Bryant and Contreras are making chump change, both huge contributors on a WS team.. Rizzo is making middle of the road money, he's a perennial 30 plus.. 100 rbi guy with GG Defense.. Also a huge contributors to a WS team. Hendricks is a tossup but the other 3 are no doubters.

The comparisons to Manny Ramirez are even accurate

 So that would essentially be Kris Bryant for Jose Quintana.

Not a chance. Baez is an ELITE defender and 5 tool player. Jimenez is a good hitter with power and that is it. Not fast and a below average outfielder. Think Jorge Soler.

Four out of five tools and missing the most important one: .312 career OBP.

JORR and I agree on two things. now that's scary. Baez just reminds me way too much offensively of a poor man's Miggy Tejada. Problem is, a guy like that you want down in the order, but you hit him 8 and the pitcher works around him to get to the pitcher and will often get him out anyway with an approach like that. You saw last night what he did with a guy that can only throw straight stuff. I'd rather have Russell, I think that kid still has a lot of potential and is a better approach hitter.

I still can't figure out Schwarber. There's no way this kid can't be Matt Stairs.

I will say this, if you want a bone to pick with Joe Maddon. Baez would have been traded a year or two ago were it not for Joe. Joe is his biggest fan. That's very clear.

Baez and Russell have essentially the same results statistically at the plate.

It's just Baez looks a lot sillier when he strikeouts than compared to Russell.

Rizzo > Abreu

I'd trade Jimenez for Abreu, guys who hit 30 plus homers and drive in 100 plus are not easy to find.

Career number, not current. He has improved his approach and though a .270 batting average and .325 OBP is not outstanding, it's clear he is trending in a positive direction.

Baez has been intentionally walked 13 times because he's usually hitting in front of the pitcher. Take those out and his on base is .291
