As someone who is with my kid alone in public a decent amount that is a really dumb thing to say.

Well besides the fact my daughter was quiet the whole time and the place specifically had a children's menu, I messaged him back to fuck off and I hoped every time he goes out he's surrounded by pissed off babies and that he should also suggest changing tables because dudes are just going to change diapers on the god damn sink counter. Asshole.

It is amazing how many places don't have them in the men's room. Our local mall doesn't which makes no sense to me but I just avoid it now anyways.

That's when you have to set on the toilet and try to do what women have mastered or run to the car. We're better off running to the car.

No, maybe somewhere private, like Cinabunn, or run to your car as mentioned.

"DEAL WITH IT" is normally a bad answer.

Some of you new dads are helpless. If lack of a changing table throws you into fits, what are you going to do 16 years from now when he brings home a bag of grass?

I am kind of surprised there is such disagreement on the idea that a woman--the person who carried the baby, gave birth, may have physical complications, and also may be breastfeeding--should get more time than the father. Plus, if the father works, chances are he still has plenty of time to see the baby after work.

This seems like a clear case of denying the reality of the situation. I think JORR said it best...equitable is not always the same as equal.

Our mall has a whole baby area near the food court. Rooms for nursing, family restrooms, a huge open area of hanging tables. The sad part is that I always got the stink eye from moms when I went back there. I could see a man going there alone but I had three kids with me. Back off bitches.

I also get a stink eye from people when I have to take the girls into the men's room with me. I'm not letting 4 year olds use a public bathroom by themselves.

Shit, we have a board full of betas. I changed two diapers, I think. It might be less.

We carried that kid first. We should have gotten 12 weeks after conception.

I know. It seems obvious to me. Plus my original point was not to debate the amount of time or whether a company should offer it. My only point was should a company be sued for offering a different amount of time to women because they deserve it. I can't believe anyone would argue otherwise. For the emotional part, women and men deserve the same. For the physical, well that is 100% women.

I believe they get the same amount of time but 1 gets paid for 4 more weeks.

Maybe the dad gets the time off to deal with the lack of sex for 8-12 weeks after the birth?

Physical complications aren't relevant though. That is a medically required leave. For a C section, it is 8 weeks. It's technically less than 6 weeks for a natural birth. If there were more serious complications the same concept would apply.

Maternity/Paternity exists to take care of a family member at one of the most fragile points in their whole lives. We let FMLA be the same for a man or a woman. We don't say "The man only needs two weeks to take care of a dying relative!".

We should always side on things that are more equal unless there is a very good reason to allow inequality. Companies will survive just fine and this actually will benefit women too as they will have a someone there to help them recover from the physical stresses associated with childbirth and they won't have to enter every job interview with the idea that the man who just interviewed them will "not take a lot of time off to have babies".

I would like to think all men understand this but this is just our way of fighting feminism and the lie that the sexes are equal.

Like, you want all the good parts of a man's life? Well thrn we want all the good parts of your life too.

Women created this mess.

That's an interesting angle, but I'll bet if you asked most women, they would say they deserve more time than the father and would feel offended at being treated "equally."

It may be an age thing but most women around my age seem to want the father involved as much as possible.
