144 million Americans (likely most of this board) just had their details stolen in a data breach

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/09/07/credit- ... umers.html

Most alarmingly, your social security number just got compromised.

My social security has long been compromised by the United States Army, the Chinese hack of DOD/Office of Personnel Management records, and my own crippling pornography addiction.

You're 100% correct, but porn torrent sites (and illegal NFL streams) are a cesspool of trojans/viruses that my security software treats them like a superfund waste site.

Also get a load of this gem from the article

Quote:
Equifax said it is now alerting customers whose information was included in the breach via mail, and is working with state and federal authorities. Its private investigation into the breach is complete.

What a fucking joke.

To be fair, they would have your latest address from the last time you applied for credit and would have the best chance of reaching you that way.

Also, yes your current address was compromised too.

Thanks bro but I'm good. I just like to torrent that shit. One day the grid will go down and there will be no porn to stream.

That day the man with the hard drive of porno will be king.

A lesson I learned in small area of Afghanistan with no internet access.

There are chrome extensions which can record video from such sites so when you find a good one, you can save it without getting a virus.

My favorite part is that this happened in July. Thanks for letting us know before 2018! Oh, and several C-levels there sold some of their stock before this came out. That's nice.

I appear to have escaped. I do find it ridiculous that it was two months ago they found out.

As far as execs selling.. isn't that textbook insider training?

Well they had to dump all their shares before the public found out...that takes time! Of course its insider trading, and its equally certain that they will get away with it. These credit reporting agencies are among the worst.

I was compromised so I will gladly be joining every class action suit that comes from this. Time to destroy Equifax

Apparently, if you sign up for that Trusted ID horseshit, you also forfeit your right to sue Equifax ... such a deal!

https://trustedidpremier.com/static/terms
“By consenting to submit Your Claims to arbitration, You will be forfeiting Your right to bring or participate in any class action (whether as a named plaintiff or a class member) or to share in any class action awards, including class claims where a class has not yet been certified, even if the facts and circumstances upon which the Claims are based already occurred or existed.”

Meanwhile, here's a cherry on top of it all ...

You cannot sign away your right to sue. One of the board ambulance chasers will be happy to remind you of this.

But really what are you gonna sue them for? They've had two months to burn every shred of damning evidence that could be used against them in court. Your chances of getting any sort of money out of this are near zero, and even if they did lose some massive case what are they gonna do? Its 144 million people! You'll get a big fat 75 cent check in the mail ohhhh boy.

I sort of understand this, but I reckon there are a few here who would understand it considerably more ... from a reddit thread on it:

The alert is not on equifax.com but on equifaxsecurity2017.com with a ssl certificate that is verified by a different party than equifax.com.

Adding icing to the cake, the "check if you are impacted" page asks for last name and last 6 digits of social... And it's at trustedidpremier.com ... with a 3rd ssl certificate verifier.

What the fuck is this? Why is it not all hosted on their main site? This seems sketchy as hell to me and opens up so many phishing opportunities...

Are they setting up some sort of hotline you can call to see if your data was compromised ? Will they contact you?

http://EquifaxSecurity2017.com (It's real, Equifax has it on their website and social media) where you can input some info (6 digits of your SSN! IN A BREACH ABOUT MISHANDLING YOUR SSN!) to see.

Luckily, I was not impacted, but will gladly see the ruin of a company and its executives who established and perpetuate a system that effectively valuates a human based on their perceived ability to pay interest on a loan.

Ever since I was a kid and found out what a credit score was, the concept has always seemed bizarre to me. Forget to pay a bill? 7 years of labeling!

The funny thing is that according to law, SSN was never allowed to be an identifying number for any reason other than social security.

Strangely, Discover card sent me an alert about a week ago saying they were issuing me a new card because of a suspected breach that they weren't involved in (there were no fraudulent charges on my acct). I wonder if it had anything to do with this
