Hopefully Maddon doesn't go crazy with your versatility and has you playing all four infield positions as well as pitcher and catcher.

Only way he ends up on the Cubs is if he wants to play for them. I think the Cubs can only offer him $300,000 signing bonus.

Yeah, really this is the worst possible news for the Cubs.

He has already walked away from hundreds of millions of dollars of guarantees. I don't think he is too concerned with leaving $8.3MM on the table to take $300,000 from whichever team he likes.

Whichever team signs him will be locking him up on a long term extension in a suspiciously short time after the original deal.

Theo also sucks at free agency, so if the Cubs do get him, it won't end well. I don't trust Japs.

Word is that he's hot for the Yankees.

Or better yet, the Dodgers

Four Japanese starters and a honkey named Clayton.

I would think he would prefer to sign with a contender.

American league so he can DH when he's not pitching, or do you think he would want to pitch and then on days off play outfield in the National league. Also for the All-Star game, what spot does he get voted into at? What if he gets voted as a LF, can they pitch him as well? So many open questions.

Sox can sell him on being the next great player in the Cuban Connection.

The next Travis Wood. Use him as a position player and relief pitcher.

There is no reason to believe Heyward would opt out. He would be a damn fool.

Agreed, no way in hell he opts out. The only possible way I could even see him agreeing to a trade is if he started getting ugly abuse from the fans. But I don't see that happening as long as the Cubs stay respectable, despite his underperformance.

This year is basically what we expected from him. Would like to see him walk more, but this is about as good as it gets.

Everytime I see him bat, it looks like someone who is actually a right-handed batter trying to hit from the left side.

Yeah, never thought of it that way, but you're right. It's more of a sweeping motion.
