Shenanigans are afoot. She has no appetite for tough elections and that governor's race will be tough.

I'll throw out a completely unfounded, completely speculatory thought: Madigan is Trump's real estate tax attorney in Chicago (I don't actually know it to be true). Either way, he probably has a good relationship with Trump (which I also don't know to be true). Trump will name Madigan US ambassador to Ireland

Maybe, but Madigan seems like a die-with-your-boots-on sort of monomaniac to me. I can't see him taking a sinecure, especially from a Republican, unless there's some very real sense that the walls are about to close in on him here.
