I'm a little surprised there hasn't been a thread on this. New HBO show from The Wire team about the porn industry in the 70's. I wasn't thrilled about the plot/premise, but it looks good. Debuts September 10th but the pilot is available now. Gonna check out the 90 minute premiere tonight probably. Some background:

I'm sure that I will watch it, just hoping it is better than Vinyl, which I hoped would be better. I have high expectations from David Simon and the previews I have seen thus far don't get much of a reaction out of me.

Not sure about this. Ill probably give it a try. But Treme was another series where I wasnt that interested in the subject but tried it because of Simon's involvement but I never got into that one.

I ended up enjoying Treme, but only because I connected with the characters. The story wasn't all that strong and it just kind of lost steam.

Certainly setting themselves up for easy reviews if it sucks. Not sure I want to watch a show starring turtle girl that is about porn.

Just watched the pilot. It's like if Vinyl were a good show. Could be very inneresting. Not sure what to make of the identical twin nonsense but there are a ton of potentially interesting characters. You might even say 1970s NYC is a character itself!!!!!!1111!

Finally got around to it tonight. I'm ALL IN on this now. Has the look of the next Great HBO Show. Starts off a bit slow because of course it does, but you can see pretty quickly the world that Simon and Pelecanos are building. I'll probably do a rewatch of it before the second episode starts on the 17th.

My post is better.

It usually is.

I agree on the twins thing. I hate when shows/actors do that. It's one of the reasons season 3 of Fargo was so awful. I think this show is probably strong enough to overcome that weakness though.

Also, a lot funnier than I thought it would be, which I guess shouldn't be surprising given all the funny moments in The Wire.

Not sure what your first sentence means. As to your second, yeah I'd recommend jacking off to porn vs this show, but then again I don't use dramatic tv shows as porn.

Pilot was pretty fucking dumb.

What is it with the trend of having actors pull double-duty to play identical twins? Stupid.

And Maggie Gyllenhall looks like a gross old lady. Yech.

I really enjoyed this episode also. Jackie Aprile as Rudy is great. CC killing the fake cop definitely jump started the episode and series a bit.

The whole Show and Prove thing is just vintage Wire.

Finally caught the pilot last night. I was waiting to watch with my wife to see if it was something we could watch together but she
had little interest by the end. I thought it was pretty good. I like the period costumes and the vintage cars. I'll give it a few more
episodes to see where it goes.

I was excited about Levy and Sobotka (who were both good)....And then Daniel fuckin LaRusso shows up out of nowhere.

Also, I gotta say I already buy Franco as both twins. I dont think about it. They seem like two normal characters.

This subject matter isn't something I can watch while the kids are awake so it will be difficult to stay up to date. I watched 1.5 episodes yesterday. It was ok. Enough to bring me back for a while.

Yea, same.

Plus, Im not sure how interested I am in the rise of the porn industry or whatever but it'll probably be good enough character and story wise to keep me interested.

Can't remember a show I enjoyed this much at the start. I think it's been great. I hope Bubbs shows up at some point

Wasn't sure what to expect with this series but I've enjoyed it thus far. I think they do a good job of showing how grimy 70s
New York was. I can't stand the cocky twin but I'm pretty sure he is supposed to be unlikeable.

Have they gotten to the time in porn when they had good looking women partaking, yet?
