Guy I work for asked me to spend a few months out there working for him. It'll be until the end of the year.

Anyone been there? Is it safe for Americans? I've heard horror stories that they just rob you off the plane but I'm guessing thats exaggerated or just some one in a million incident.

I usually go back to the bay area to visit my kids for the holidays but they told me to go and have fun. It would be sort of cool to check out a new culture and spend some time in a different country.

I'm probably like 70/30 in favor but just wanted to get others opinions on the place.

It is not horrible. I couldn't see myself staying for an extended period though. It's just not really that interesting.

You do have to be careful, but for the most part it is just ordinary street crime.

There is a shopping mall right near the waterfront a little south of the Rizal monument. I have wandered through that mall a few times and felt perfectly safe.

It's not very interesting. Make sure you hit the historic center of town and see Fort Santiago and the cathedral and things.

International terminal at the airport sucks - incredibly small, everything is cash only.

While you're there shoot a drug dealer in the face. I'm not certain but I think Rodrigo Duterte will make you a citizen and give you a medal.
