If they split with the Crew, they should give him his last start off. The thing that scares me is the whole baserunner steals 2nd and 3rd on him...teams should have figured him out by now and you have to figure they will seeing that.

fwiw, Lester has lost 2MPH off his 4 seamer this year http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?pl ... position=P

So I"m not sure why RBP is doing the "Baghdad Bob" act. There is reason for concern...

I said he's on the way down, he's a trainwreck every 6th start, and has pitched himself out of Game 1 consideration.

Juiced is the only one saying he's fine. I'm saying I still trust him as much as Quintana and Lackey.

Oh and where do you see the 2mph loss? That link shows exactly 1 mph 92.1 to 91.1

And that would probably feed the tired arm theory. Pitching in the post season for 4 straight years takes it's toll.

Lester has been mediocre or bad far too often this year. It's not just a recent development. I said before that Jake should pitch game 1 in the playoffs and I remain convinced that would be best, with Hendricks pitching game 2 and if he's going well, Quintana in game 3. Lester is just awful right now and his inability to hold runners is embarrassing.

Why put Lackey on the postseason roster?

May as well because Uehara is toast.

Grimm sucks right now for two reasons. He does have legit good stuff.

one, he has no control.

two, he tends to waggle his glove when he brings his hands together on the delivery when he's going to throw something breaking. He doesn't waggle the glove on his fastball. If I can pick that up, be sure MLB players can.

long way to go. I still trust him to shake this off. That ump wasn't giving him the low strike.

How long? The guy is 34. It seems to be a pattern at this point. His velocity is down and he just got smoked by a bad minor league ball club.

He doesn't "suck", but he is probably at #3 at best. Maybe a #2 on a bad team.

The fact that he glared at his outfielder yesterday while he was struggling on the mound doesn't help IMO.

I wonder just how much the guys on this team like the inbread hicks yelling at them and showing them up.

I was at the game yesterday. The strike zone was tight for both teams, and I can play LF better than Schwarber. He should have gotten out of the fourth with only one run scoring.

He is a #3 now, but he is fine in this rotation.

Maybe this will be common. I thought I had read/heard some noise about umps not calling low strikes this year.

The umps strike zone didnt put one ball off the wall in left nor the hit to Schwarber that was badly misplayed.
The umps strike zone isnt why lester couldn't get any pitches past hitters. He missed no bats yesterday. Only 7 swinging strikes.

That logic is wrong. If he gets the low strike,he doesn't have to groove one, which is what happened yesterday. I will defend him this time, but I'm hoping he still has something left in the tank.

The days of the "workhorse" pitchers are fading. Nowadays managers are grateful if you can give them 5 or 6 quality innings.

Yep. All of then are better than Jon Lester.

Last place has been historically impressive for Cubs fans.

It’s a nice list. I’m curious of what it would look like if you changed the IP threshold to 7+. 5 innings is a nice start to a start.

Maybe save these statements for when your team doesn’t look like a traveling high school team. Assuming that ever happens, of course.
