I've always been in awe of how they turned 1 and a half great album's worth of music into such a gigantic following. As rappers, no one is really elite. The bulk of Rza's production doesn't do much for me either.

To each is own tho. At least Method Man became a solid actor.

Btw, this doesn't mean RPB sucks.

Rza was a marketing genius way ahead of his time on branding.

I would argue Gza, Ghost, Rae, and Method Man are just under elite status. Not MJ types, but Dominque-ish. Rza is definitely an elite producer. Add in ODB being one of the first and most unique characters in hip hop and you have a winning formula.

I would say 2 good group albums and probably 5 classic-worthy solo albums.

36 Chambers
Forever
Liquid Swords
OB4CL
Ironman
Supreme Clientele
Tical

I had been listening to Kendrick most of the time lately and just recently put Forever in heavy rotation. Severe Punishment and Deadly Melody are my jams currently.

But I cant help but wonder how classic Forever would have been if they edited it down to one album.

RZA is not the best producer to ever live. You are a ******* idiot if you think so. Wu tang was never the best. Wu tang is ******* stupid. They had one O.K album. After that, they fell the **** off HARD. Where are they now? Haven't heard anything from those lames.

I get what you're saying, but 5 classic solo albums are at the end of the day still solo albums. Plus all that music is 20 plus years old. It's baffling they still have a following so large without producing more classic music in 2 decades.

Don't get me wrong. I went through like 3 or 4 copies of '36 Chambers' in my youth because of overplaying and losing the CD. That album is a groundbreaking hip hop classic.

Right but the solo albums get put under the Wu umbrella. That's why Rza's idea was so great. Any solo show you're gonna have the crowd throwing up W's the whole time.

I like when they advertise it like WU TANG CLAN (members Cappadonna and Killah Priest)

Who hustles the most between Method, Rza and Ghost?

Ghost puts out like a full length album every year. Method Man still makes albums and acts and so does Rza.

Cant knock the hustle

my lowly take is that 36 chambers is one of the greatest rap albums of all time and that forever is a rrrrreally good album too. groundbreaking take i know.

i think wutang is top 5 for sure, but apart, they are all veerrry mediocre to me. method man probably was my favorite solo guy but even then he would have 1 or 2 good songs on each Tical album (was done by the 3rd Tical). everyone else, boooring for the most part.

yeah he's ok. Iron man is just a mediocre album to me. the best songs are the ones with like raekwon and i forget who the other Wu guys were on it. like mini wu sessions.

if i remember correctly they crapped out solo albums like crazy in the late 90's after forever. but once i got my hands on A2G and Ria, labcabincalifornia (a few years late to that party), Black star and jurassic 5 i was all in on that genre of rap and these cd's started working their way to the back of the cd wallet.

You're a bloody fool. The RZA is a consensus top 5 producer of all time. The Genius was undoubtedly a legendary MC when you consider his 1991-1997 output, right there in my top 10 with Rakim, Krs-One, Chuck D, Kool Keith, Slick Rick, etc.

I won't even address the 1 1/2 albums thing. My head is getting ready to explode. You are abysmal, man. Stick to posting unfunny gifs.

Wu-Tang dick riders are the best.

I don't know if you can even call me a dick rider because I can't stomach the lyrical content of Raekwon, Ghostface, Method Man, Cappadonna, etc. But they were highly-skilled.

Inspector Deck was elite-level, but he simply didn't produce enough material during his peak years.

And Old Dirty Bastard is not for everyone, I understand.

But to disregard the lyrical prowess of the Genius, and to say that you're not feeling the bulk of RZA's catalog when he produced like 10 back-to-back masterpiece-level albums is heinous.

Gza is the best MC of the group no doubt. He put on one of the best one man shows I've ever seen at the Abbey Pub back in 2007. Liquid Swords is a great album.

All I'm saying is they get hyped up way too much as a group. Their group albums are largely shit. I'm a guy who was balls deep in Wu fandom for most of my teens. I'm just calling it how I see it. They've been finished for 20 years.

Somewhere on (the presumably long-lost) "hip hop mp3 Cd vol 1" CD-R is the RealAudio file of freestyle fellowship vs the wu-tang clan** on the wake up show.

** = It's not the big guys but lackeys like Cappadocia and killah priest.

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:

- Common (within a year or two of losing his sense) is there (??) and does a random freestyle verse where he proclaims "I USED TO LOVE H.E.R.... BUT NOW I BONE HER!"

- I think it's killah priest stumbling over the beginning of his written and starting over.

- the fellowship/project-blowed ppl getting sick of the lesser Wu's and not giving them by the mic back near the end

- after a meandering beginning with a lot of manifesting aceyalone kills it

Boy if I could find that mp3 Cd I bet there's some deep puddle dynamics on there... =P
