He may re-injure it. Who knows? He's good enough to give it a go, quite obviously.

That isn't a minor injury and you don't want a Game 1 starter fresh off the DL with no rehab starts.

Didn't he pitch against Milwaukee 4 days ago?

I didn't. Hopefully he pitches great and I'm wrong about him against the Nationals.

Lester
Arrieta

Jake will have 2 starts. Pitching Tuesday and Sunday. Then he would be ready for the opener on Friday.

you say that now. You might not say that then.

I don't believe in Quintana until he shows me he can win under playoff pressure. This is true of any pitcher.

I can live with that.

I like it because it means Quintana pitches the clinching games of the NLCS and WS.

I wouldn't because hitters only hit .229 against him in the playoffs. You're not arguing with JORR here.

Neither are you. Please tell me how he has done in deciding games in the postseason. You cannot talk about Jose Quintana's inability to pitch successfully with postseason pressure when he has had zero postseason starts. You cannot defend Clayton Kershaw's ability to pitch successfully with postseason pressure when he has pitched awfully anytime he pitches late in a postseason series.

Jose Quintana, in 1 career game(s) with huge postseason implications, pitched a 3-hit CG shutout. In September, in the middle of a heated playoff race, he has a 1.63 ERA, a .534 OPS against and 31 strikeouts versus 4 walks.

Despite his struggles in the playoffs I would take Kershaw over every Cubs pitcher.

Me too.

It's like Peyton Manning. Eventually with that many appearances, he'll become what he is...dominant.

Im not sure what point you guys are making but Im not putting a worse LHP in a higher spot solely by virtue of being LHP

Quintana is the 2 or 3. Lester is 4.

 I'm not defending Kershaw. But he hasn't pitched that poorly in the postseason. Look at the important stats. If Quintana pitches as well as Kershaw in the playoffs, I'll be happy. Doesn't mean he'll win.

The important stats are how many runs you give up. If we're comparing two pitchers with a 3 something ERA...then we can talk about WHIP, OPS against, K/BB and other stats to get a sense of how to predict the trajectories of both. But we are talking about a pitcher with a 2.35 career ERA in the regular season and a 4.55 ERA (over 89 innings!) in the postseason.

If Quintana pitches to a 4.55 ERA in the postseason and craps down his pants and into his socks in any Game 4 or later start, I will be unhappy. If you are happy, then you need to review what you expect out of your favorite team and its players.

You can't NOT believe in clutch and then say Clayton Kershaw sucks in the playoffs. It will normalize, given enough time, unless you DO believe in clutch.

Kershaw has pitched on 3 days rest so much too, it skews the comparisons.
