I wouldn't because hitters only hit .229 against him in the playoffs. You're not arguing with JORR here.

Neither are you. Please tell me how he has done in deciding games in the postseason. You cannot talk about Jose Quintana's inability to pitch successfully with postseason pressure when he has had zero postseason starts. You cannot defend Clayton Kershaw's ability to pitch successfully with postseason pressure when he has pitched awfully anytime he pitches late in a postseason series.

Jose Quintana, in 1 career game(s) with huge postseason implications, pitched a 3-hit CG shutout. In September, in the middle of a heated playoff race, he has a 1.63 ERA, a .534 OPS against and 31 strikeouts versus 4 walks.

 I'm not defending Kershaw. But he hasn't pitched that poorly in the postseason. Look at the important stats. If Quintana pitches as well as Kershaw in the playoffs, I'll be happy. Doesn't mean he'll win.

The important stats are how many runs you give up. If we're comparing two pitchers with a 3 something ERA...then we can talk about WHIP, OPS against, K/BB and other stats to get a sense of how to predict the trajectories of both. But we are talking about a pitcher with a 2.35 career ERA in the regular season and a 4.55 ERA (over 89 innings!) in the postseason.

If Quintana pitches to a 4.55 ERA in the postseason and craps down his pants and into his socks in any Game 4 or later start, I will be unhappy. If you are happy, then you need to review what you expect out of your favorite team and its players.

You can't NOT believe in clutch and then say Clayton Kershaw sucks in the playoffs. It will normalize, given enough time, unless you DO believe in clutch.

I do believe in clutch. I've never said otherwise. You might have me confused with another poster. I reference high leverage situations all the time.

Nearly a half season of suckage is a sign that Kershaw has a little Peyton in him.

Hendricks

Lester
Arrieta

Leave him off? He pitches Game 1 or 2 unless he re-injures himself.

Him being fresh off an injury scares me.

He has been one of the best pitchers in baseball in the second half, and he looked fine in his return. Bad thoughts on Arrieta here.

It was 1 start. You would like to see more. What happens if he gives up 7 in his next start?

It was 5 but I am still right.

Probably agree with this rotation, but man Hendricks just made a strong case for starting game one.

Not just a strong case, a slam dunk case. He is currently their best and most consistent pitcher and should start game 1.

I think Arrieta goes in game 4 at this point. And if he's not right yet, Lackey times his warmup routine to be ready to come in fo r the fourth inning.

I find it interesting that even the biggest Quintana guys don't want him pitching in games 1 and 2(or even 3 for that matter)

I'm trying to politely ignore your "Arrieta shouldn't pitch in the NLDS" take.

Lester, Jake, and Hendricks have been carrying the water for the club for the last three years, they get their shots.

I guess. The postseason isn't the time to get sentimental.

That'd be ok. Can you imagine how lathered up HoofNMouth is gonna be? Spectacular theatre, and he has pitched well the second half.

i agree with the mentality that hendricks should pitch at wrigley. but this sets up the conundrum. you could juggle the entire rotation and see what you get. no one has been a buckshot slam dunk.

i say put it on arrieta. he's the one with the cocksure beard. let him get his ass shelled if he can't handle it and explain away afterward. drop game 1 at washington, is that really a death sentence?

But if you run scared from pitching Hendricks in DC, you can't use him in 4 or 5. I get conceding the Scherzer start and concentrating on 2-3-4, but it feels a little like the too-clever-by-half management of 2007, where Lou saved Zambrano for a game he'd never pitch.

Because he still has an issue with his hamstring.

The best pickoff move in baseball is going to pitch in washington and set a tone. Overaggressive hitters finally getting their shot and Trea fucking Turner.....that screams hendricks to me.

Put Quintana in there against Scherzer. This is why you got him.

i just don't think you're "running scared" by saving hendricks. like i said, there is no real "ace" to this staff right now. if you wanted to go with the hot hand...hell...lackey would be your go-to guy.

whatever throws off the nationals' lineup best, go for it.

We're not talking about digging up 1989 Mike Beilecki and starting him.

Jake and Hendricks have the lowest ERAs on the staff this year and Lester has a bunch of post season pelts on his wall.
