It bothers me when people trash the flag not to demonstrate their right to do so but to try to create a sort of edgy or radical vibe or to insult others in an underhanded way.

I disagree.

It's the other way. Almost any criticism of the country gets spun into spitting in the faces of veterans.

My wife is an elementary school teacher, and yes, the left is indoctrinating youth. At that age, it isn't through overt preaching and lectures. It's subtle. The big textbook companies and required reading and short stories all have hidden agendas behind them. I know because I read the stuff she has to teach.

And to Hatchet's point, the ACLU's original purpose is to defend the Bill of Rights. The right definitely gets upset with them when they go after religious institutions based on separation of church and state and the like. But the left sure does get pissed off when the ACLU defends neo Nazis' rights to march and protest. While I think the right is sometimes hypocritical when it comes to applying Constitutional rights, I feel a significant portion of the left legitimately feels the Constitution is an outdated document that needs to be rewritten or changed to reflect progressive values.

I think the government's ability to control your speech depending on what it defines as "obscene" is a lot more problematic and thorny than if you can put the flag on the floor. What the hell is that going to accomplish?

My bro-in-law was in China this week and the entire country has been blocked off MANY internet sites...Facebook, Twitter, The NEW YORK TIMES! of all things.

I think Columbus Day will go away at some point. Or at least schools won't get it off. Maybe they could replace it with Leif Erikson Day or even St. Brendan Day, as he supposedly found North America in the 6th Century. But changes are already happening at schools. My wife's school calls Halloween, Fall Day. Christmas Break is Winter Break. And Valentine's Day is Friendship Day.

Correct. There is no doubt under Obama that schools began to emphasize the teaching of radical left wing concepts like photosynthesis that undermine American values. Its no surprise that the students indoctrinated in such things went on to become leaders in the climate change hoax. My aunt teaches at a local high school and after reading what she has to teach I almost started to recycle my soda cans before I thought better of it. It's really subtle but effective propaganda.
