They told you what they were going to do and then didn't really do what they told you they were going to do.

Schwarber, Bryant, and Almora all contributed in the most important inning in baseball history, too.

Rizzo as well, who was also drafted by Thesus.

I've always found that the best, most successful organizations in sports, or any business, blindly follow plans and never take advantage of changing market environments.

I think gd is just pissed that Theo must have gone to that "Notre Dame" nighttime grad school to learn to get the management perspective to see across departmental synergies or whatever that was.

He went to law school to learn how to lead, like all the greats. It was University of San Diego Law School, which runs contrary to another myth the media likes to perpetuate, but it was law school nonetheless.

Horrific/dumb article

Cubs position player leaders in terms of fWAR this year were all drafted(or IFA signing) except Rizzo

Kris Bryant 6.7
Anthony Rizzo 4.0
Willson Contreras 3.2
Javier Baez 2.2
Ian Happ 1.8

Pitching, all players except Lester and Arrietta were either prospects or acquired with home grown draft assets

Jon Lester 2.7
Kyle Hendricks 2.5
Jake Arrieta 2.4
Jose Quintana 2.0
Mike Montgomery 1.3
Wade Davis 1.1

Thanks. You would think people who pride themselves in following a team so metrically oriented would appreciate, rather than fear the information

You can write the same kind of post when Eloy is leading the Sox to the World Series.

Exactly. The correct response would have been "Yeah, so what?". Instead, this is just about them "doing it the right way" like when I pointed out that they doubled payroll and by the time the playoffs rolled around they were either the 5th or 6th biggest payroll in baseball.

It can happen. The playoffs are a crapshoot. Hopefully the Sox don't tank another season, or trade away another 27 year old ace in the prime of his career still under contract.

As conns has admitted, they didn't tank a season.

They traded one ace for another. Then they traded a good outfielder for another.

I guess I should have renamed this thread The Myth Of Jim Hendry Drafting Incompetence as 2/5 of that group are his.

I created a thread for this last year. The Cubs were built through trades. This is not earth shattering for anyone who really understands the team. They clearly needed to save money for three years and anything said to the contrary would be wrong.

So what are saying is that 0 out of the top 6 fWAR pitchers on the Cubs were not drafted by the Cubs.

In other words, every single one of those players was available by way of other than tanking.

to be fair, they drafted hitting, with the intention of acquiring pitching on the open market...
