Keep hearing how " you gotta play Zobrist " because the playoffs but it comes at the expense of getting Schwarber at bats. Discuss.

I don't want to see either of em out there unless it's a blowout or pinch hit.

I think Zobrist has the edge over Schwarber in NL postseason play.

However, in a WS, put the Babe in at DH.

Essentially, do what you did in the 2016 playoffs, swapping Jay and Almora in for Dexter, and finding Happ AB's where you can.

Schwarber only when the matchup is in his favor. Baez and Schwarber in the same lineup is not a good idea unless you are playing softball.

Tommy La Stella will have a huge hit for the Cubs at some point in the playoffs.

Zobrist has a .200 batting average (exactly) against the top 3 WAS starters.

OBP of .333, .333, .385 (Strasburg, Scherzer, Gonzalez)

Schwarber had an .894 OPS in the second half. In 2015, everyone would have said Schwarber and he's pretty much back to those numbers

2015- 69 games .355/.487/.842 16 Homers

2017 2nd half 61 Games .335/.539/.894 17 Homers

Just keep Schwarber away from LHP and late inning defense.

Starting OF against righties should probably be Schwarber/Jay/Heyward. Against lefties Happ/Almora/Zobrist.

Fine except I'm not sitting Heyward's defense on the bench.

Schwarber's improvement in the 2nd half was thanks to platoons and bumslaying.

Even RPB acknowledges this but it will get treated like blasphemy by the rainbow fart swallowers.

did you even read the post directly above yours?

Yes, he does well in a platoon. I have no doubt he'll eventually hit lefties too. That swing is sweet. He's a better Matt Stairs.

He didn't get 200 AB against bums in the 2nd half. Besides he has a .286 BA and a 1.302 OPS against the Nationals this season and he's nearly a .400 hitter in 50 post season at bats. You get that bat in the lineup against great pitching.

2015: 212/61 77% vs RH

2017 2nd half: 188/32 85% vs RH

Nothing wrong with a platoon player. Especially a power hitting lefty. (Psst...most pitchers...nay most PEOPLE are right handed)

I realize he won't start, but that asshole Maddon better get him some AB's against right-handed relief. I realize the Cubs have a plethora of average to above average LH bats, especially at 2B, but this guy will get you a good at-bat at anytime. In a crucial situation, I don't think there's a left-handed hitter I'd rather have at the plate not named Rizzo. Maybe Zobrist due to his experience, but certainly not based on recent performance.

he's picked up the mantle from Montero.

What the hell is that supposed to mean? Baez is an exceptional fielder and a good hitter with pop. He should always be in the lineup. Schwarber is a bit less capable as an outfielder and strikes out too much. But he has shown the unique ability to rise to the occasion in the playoffs and World Series. I anticipate Joe finding key spots to bat Schwarber, but not start him regularly. But if he shows well in the early opportunities he gets, I could see his role expanding. Heyward has good numbers in his career against Scherzer and Strasburg, so I resist the idea of sitting him.
