David Stockmans' book went through the fiscal follies of our 20th century Presidents. The only person he held in high regard was Ike. Apparently, Ike refused to cut income taxes until Congress cut spending and winding down the WW2 debt. He had terrible disdain for Nixon. He was mixed on Reagan, and noted that he came into a tough situation with high inflation, high interest rates, and high unemployment.

And he made a great case for FDR completely deepening the great Depression and a subsequent recession with terrible policies and mixed messages.

Hilldog and I very much disagree with that. I think there were a lot of undecideds just looking for a reason to hate one more than the other.

I suspect it mattered from a turnout perspective. He may have brought WI, MI, and PA across the finish line. But who knows? It is akin to Romney's 47% and self deport comments. It is just an easy sound bite to play to your base.

I'm pretty conservative, but much of the right pisses me off for their fawning over Trump just because they are so against "establishment" righties that they fail to see Trump is not really conservative in any sense of the word. Trump is making deals with democrats and when you bring it up to his sycophant fans, they spew some bullshit about how he is just being smart and that Paul Ryan is a worse enemy than Chuck Schumer. These people are so stupid they can't even follow their own principles. I swear Trump could close Guantanamo Bay and 9/10 of his supporters would still defend him on how it is such a smart move.

There's been a ton of folks weighing in on how that election went down. I saw an excellent presentation by a person who is plugged into Washington through a policy institute. I don't have a copy of the presentation, and I can't recall the actual numbers. But the lady broke down all the demographics from the 2016 and 2012. It came down to these facts:

Less black voted. Many more old white males voted. She said that Republicans registered nearly 100,000 new voters in Iowa alone. There were 60 year olds that registered just to vote against Hillary. And the most astonishing thing is that 53% (I believe it was that number) of white females voted for Trump, which is crazy.

I know that doesn't prove anything about the deplorable comment. Maybe Hillary was so hated that it was going to happen anyway. So who knows?
