The numbers suggest he certainly could be on the road to the HOF.

Let's wait until he gets 200 regular season wins to start contemplating that.

You'd can start at least talking at 200, Schilling had 216 with postseason success.

The old baseball crumedogeons will start dying(the ones that control HOF voting). The new ones understand how irrevalent pitcher "Wins" are.

Right. Fill the Hall of Fame with guys who were outpitched by the opposition the majority of the time. Dumbfuck.

There's really only one active pitcher who right now deserves to go into the hall. Not saying Hendricks can't get there, but he's got to get back to last year's levels for six more years.

3 right off the top of my head: Kershaw, Scherzer, and Verlander

Verlander has four good years and then an outlier. Scherzer is on the right track but only five good years. Same with Sale. You should need eight or so to get in. We don't need the HOF clogged with King Felixes and Grienkes.

None of these guys will sniff 300 wins. Leave them all out.

Then Kershaw is definitely in; 8 seasons of sub-3.00 era, including 3 sub-2.00 seasons.

Sabathia has to be close- 237 wins, 2800Ks

200-250 wins is the new 300 in the age of shorter starts

I agree that Kershaw is definitely in -- even if he turned in five turd filled years after this of a 1.5 WHIP and walking more people than he struck out, I would still put him in.

Sabathia is an accumulator. Great Cy Young year, no doubt, but then a lot of above average years but nothing that is great. The early Yankee years were basically him accruing wins. His K:BB ratio was less than 3 which isn't something I would want in a HOF pitcher. The guy has pitched 17 full years of baseball with only one shortened with any significant injury, so his totals are going to look great, but he wasn't dominating for more than a couple years.

I would put Mussina and Sabbathia in before any of these other 5 year wonders.

Only 3 of those guys are better than Bumgarner in the post-season: 0.00 ERA in 2WC starts and a .25(!) ERA in 4 WS starts, all wins.

Another winning pitcher! Without looking him up I'm gonna say he won about 130 games with a .575 winning percentage. Put a lot of men on base but the 30s were tough on pitchers. Wes Ferrell is a good argument against WHIP being a better stat than W/L percentage. What better defines who he was- his .600 win percentage or his 1.5 WHIP? One stat is relative to conditions, the other illustrates how a guy actually performed.
