Scherzer shouldn't be sharp. Gotta jump on him early.

At least they're not going to be over confident and looking ahead coming home up 2-0. They know they're in a dogfight.

Last year it was Monty, CJ & Chapman. Monty and CJ both shit the bed tonight but they'll be back. Duensing will get a shot too.

That is how you have to see it. Sucks to lose tonight, but they are still right where you want to be.

I am not going to crucify Maddon for having CJ pitch to Harper. One of the criticisms of Joe is over managing things. CJ has been solid and he is your guy there. You trust him to get the outs. There is just as good of a chance that Harper hits a bomb off a lefty in that situation. Dude is a great player. If Maddon goes Monty there and he gives up a bomb people are pissed that Maddon did too much, and didnt trust CJ to do his job.

Yes. That team is stacked. Can’t hold them that long.

Still in good shape.

Harper has 170 higher OPS vs RHP for his career. The move is to bring in a LHP vs him. Sorry, Maddon blew it.

Ok, just so I'm not accused of being an incognito cubs bandwagoner re: my claims of hating the natinals as my #1 rooting interest this (and every) postseason--
ESPECIALLY nowadays that dusty Baker is their manager-- allow me to link you to this vintage ~sept/Oct 2004 [classic sini TLDR] blog where I talk about how I ABHOR dusty Baker (because hate is not a strong enough word)

Obviously at age 23 I wasn't as good of a thinker/writer (nor did I have anywhere near the sporadic levels of supreme confidence to alternate with my total self loathing) so I probably end up repeating myself a bunch, but yeah, I really legit hate dustball for offending all of my baseball sensibilities!

Oh yeah, here's my homemade #DuckBustyFaker shirt from 2004 as well. Indeed, even tho I wasn't a cubs fan those 04 cubs pissed me off so damn much that it's seriously some kind of perfect confluence of haterade that dustball ended up managing the fucking zombie ass expocidal natinals right around the time they're good enough to have a chance at winning the whole chalupa here...

...honestly I saw Dusty's hire as a *skypoint* moment cuz surely him being hired by them = this natinals team will NEVER win a world series with dustball captaining the Titanic, r-right?

Image

THAT SAID... GO CUBS GO! *CLAP CLAP* GO CUBS GO! *CLAP CLAP*

Oh and hey while I'm tooting my own horn over here lemme go back to 2004 and give you some hope going forward for this series against a busty faker team

sini in 2004 wrote:
even if you get rid of sosa, the [05/+ cubs] are liable to collapse.. dusty's 1998 san fran giants collapsed, enabling the 98 cubs to beat them i na 1 game playoff for the wild card. his 2002 giants collapsed in games 6 and 7 of the WS (after dusty gave the game/world series ball to russ ortiz and thanked him for winning hte world series for them), his 2003 cubs collapsed in games 6 and 7 of the NLCS, and his 2004 cubs collapsed in the last week plus of the regular season when they had a 1 to 1 1/2 game lead in the wild card heading into a stretch of 3 games vs the terrible essentially AAA new york mets, losing 3 of 4 to the totally AAA cincinnati reds

(And surely his reds teams and these dustball natinals have surely collapsed at some point too, you know, just like september and the first ~16 innings of this NLDS series =)

TLDR = the cubs better not blow this because holy shit dusty baker was put on earth to fuck up in the playoffs! #GoCubsGo!!

Also </NotMyBlog> might be apropos here since this was literally my blog here =]

No.

26 homers against rhp
3 against lhp

That negates Edwards numbers against Lefties

This! The need for people to felate Maddon nonstop is puzzling!

You have no righty after Strop

So the choice was Edwards vs Harper or MontgomeryDuenssing vs Rendon

Joe chose wrong.

Why is Duenssing there?

Yes, a split is still good but they had a real chance to go 2-0.

Right. No one you can count on.

Oh well. Cubs almost got thru 2 without being exposed. Got to the pen.

Scherzer is beatable.

trying to look at it in a positive.

For Joe, he did the same thing yesterday having a righty face a lefty and it worked. Today it did not.

If they were up 2-0, for some reason they probably blow the next 2.

Nats sort of pulled this one out of their ass. Can they do it again? yes. We just got to play smart and have the right guys out there.

Still sucks Monday is a day game. going to miss it all.

Not sure if this has been posted, but last year this was Chapman in the 8th inning.

Not talking about the result, just saying either Davis can't go more than one inning, or Joe doesn't trust him to.

This one hurt.

Now it's on to Chicago and lets win there!

I dont know about that. I think joe started using chapman in the 8th only once in the playoffs and once in the WS if I remember correctly. I could be wrong.

Even if they got thru the 8th, I wonder how Davis would have done going back to back games. He eventually will have to do that these playoffs if they are to advance far.

If we won today i would have felt like we had a really good chance at going back to the WS.

Now I feel like we're sort of even w/ the Nats but can beat them if we close out games.

But vs LA., not sure now if we can beat those guys.

Let's see how it plays out.

Joe was not putting Chapman in the 8th in the 2nd game of the playoffs last year.

Joe will go to Davis in the 8th in more must win games. I have no doubt about that.

That's what I recall as well.

Even though Davis has been almost automatic this year, Chapman felt more like a sure thing last year.

Brutal loss tonight. You get a great start from Lester, and have the lead in the 8th, you can't blow that. Edwards is a suck fest. if the lead off man gets on against him, usually he's scoring. That hanging curve was awful. As soon as I saw it hang, I knew it was getting killed. On 3-1, I'm thinking he was throwing a get me over, more than trying to bury it. I think that was a cover up by all parties. Should of been a lefty in the game, no doubt. If Zobrist plays another inning in this series, Maddon needs to be fired. He has nothing left. It's really painful to watch.

In these 2 games, Darling is the only thing that has been worse than Zo.

I remember in the regular season we were up on the Nats like 8-2 when the bullpen took over. CJ gave up a granny and the Nats came all the way back to beat us. Maybe they had that in the back of their heads tonight? it worked out fine yesterday though.

Anyhow, I didnt feel that bad after the loss. I was disappointed but it wasn't like pre 2016 where I could feel my heart dropping into my stomach.
