this loss exposes the weaknesses we feared in game one. those were quelled because hendricks was lights out. this team is a question mark. right when you think they're there, something snags them. that's been their story all season.

you look at the astros, and the indians...you don't have those questions. but something can always fuck them up and you don't see it coming. you do with the cubs.

"you can't script october".

Ya we know what this team is this year. All year they had trouble beating good teams outside the division. They can maybe use that playoff experience to their advantage but you still got to make pitches and close out games. Let's see how far they will get.

What network is the next game on? If it's on tbs, they have some kind of app we can watch the game on?

if we knew what team this was, they would've fallen to the cardinals or the brewers down the stretch. they decided they were going to push through and they did. that was not at all what they were doing in the spring. and even in the late summer, they were fucking about. now, they're showing both sides. first game, it looks good. this game, until the 8th, looked like a pretty sure victory. and they blew it.

game 3 determines the series, and defines the cubs.

So the choice was Edwards vs Harper or MontgomeryDuenssing vs Rendon

Joe chose wrong.

Why is Duenssing there?

I think Joe chose fine, it's just thst Carl bought into the Harper hype and clearly wanted no part of the guy, falling behind 3-1 (and not even missing close) and then being so afraid of blowing the game by getting 2 runners on he threw him that fucking cookie at 3-1 and suffice to say Harper didn't miss.

Hopefully Carl learned something from that, Joe learned something about Carl (whether overall or just on the 2nd night of back to back appearances) and from there you just get some better luck, cuz the fabled "bloop and a blast" can and will happen in baseball..... But the part where Mike Mo' came in and promptly shit the bed to make 3-3 >> 3-6 = that's where I have my worries if I'm a cubs-fan/natinals-hater.

Honestly I'm just hoping that stupid fucking HR doesn't make the cubs walk on eggshells plus give that lineup a whole lot of confidence cuz thus far they've had one good inning + a first inning solo HR over 2 games, so big/ger picture I can live with that unless floating one to captain commercial flips a switch and all of a sudden the natinals are banging out 9-12+ hits a game from here on out....

...and oh fuck game 3 is a lackey start is it not? Oh no... they're gonna get their groove back and quite possibly have a lead heading into the arrieta start, aren't they? And they have scherzer going against lackey r-right? And then it's gonna be 1-2 going into a bad arrieta start right? And then after elimination the meteor hits and the cubs never win another championship again!!! Fucking Toews!!!! </CuriousHair>

Oh fuck. But hey, time to show off some championship mettle right here cuz uhhh yeah ideally you really REALLY wanna be up 2-0 heading into lackey vs scherzer. Fuck.

/me looks for a small woodlands animal to sacrifice to the baseball gods

Only saw the first couple of innings. Did Lester start the 7th? He only threw 86 pitches.

Strop handled a 1-2-HBP-3 7th, then Carl Edwards jr came out for the 8th... Adam Lind had a leadoff single.... Carl owned trea Turner for a K (albeit working his way back from 3-0/3-1 or something), then he was clearly afraid to pitch to Bryce Harper, missing badly to go 3-1, where he hung him a "get me over" cookie (most likely fearing a walk more than anything else) and Harper absolutely crushed it. 3-3.

Then I think Carl either got yanked or stayed in to give up 1 more hit and Mike Mo' came in and promptly shit the bed ultimately giving up a 3R HR. 6-3 natinals.

I assumed they'd finally lean in on the starters but it looks like no. Fuck.

I saw a bit of postgame interviews. Maddon is coloring his hair. Douche move by mr keeping it real. This year has really exposed a lot about him, starting with the series through his interview on 60 minutes and up to his hair styling for the national media during the playoffs

I'm not saying the Cubs don't have holes but the Astros are starting Brad Peacock in game three, and before yesterday they were starting TBD. Let's not pretend they are the late 90s Yankees.

yeah I'm with you that with 86 pitches after 6 I woulda kept Lester in there for one more clean inning, then you probably pull him after 7 right around 100 pitches. This would have enabled you to use strop in the 8th, and then hey obviously a 2-0 lead if you go that way.

Honestly IDK how Joe used his pen during the season... Was Carl Edwards the 8th inning guy no matter what? Even in back to back appearances? See, the only way I can fault Joe for not letting Lester pitch the 7th is if that pushes strop back to the 8th and you avoid Carl...

If Joe is married to his 8th inning guy then it doesn't really matter about Lester cuz strop did the job in the 7th, but if he woulda been able to use strop in the 8th to avoid back to back Carl Edwards apps, then yeah srsly WTF JOE STOP THE MADNESS!!!

He was sweating his nuts off.. Very humid.

Edwards has been bad this year, i thought he would have went to Montgomery after lester and tried to ride him til Davis.

Especially because he looks fine with the grey hair. Some dudes just cant pull off the white hair or shaved head look. He absolutely does the former very well.

You really cannot see the difference between yesterdays game and game 3 vs the Giants last year?

Of course games are urgent in a 5 games series, but yesterdays game was not a must win game. You are up 1-0 on the road. Game 3 in a 5 game series is way more of a must win.

I don't question the move but yesterday WAS a must win. The margin of error is so small against the Nationals. The Cubs are very likely going to be down 1-2 after tomorrow and need to win the last 2 gamea.

My friends were all busting on me for the series play between one of them and I, as if sherzer in game 3 were a foregone conclusion. He wanted to go double or nothing on the eseries

Sounds like La Stella will be playing tomorrow. Joe wants more lefties in the lineup than they had in game 1. Zo better be on the bench. Put Schwarber in left and Jay in center.

Max already talking about how he is going to throw over 100 pitches. Shove it up his ass so Dusty has to pull him in the 3rd inning.

It's an odd situation. The guy IS a good manager or at least leader of major league teams (if not in game managing)

He's had a ton of success, but then when he gets to the pinnacle, he is still ripped (rightfully) for the moves that almost cost them a title.

I'm not sure, how Id react if I were him. It's not right, but I can see it.

A guy in my office (sox fan) told me "the genius" Maddon would go to the Yankees. I said, Maddon gets love but Francona gets as much if not more and he said I was crazy.

Maddon has been ripped pretty consistently since Game 7. The genius thing is over for him.

I do think he's a good dude in real life. Probably buys drinks. Same with Dusty. Pinella seems like a prick.
