The Cubs have won despite Maddon, not because of him.

It's an odd situation. The guy IS a good manager or at least leader of major league teams (if not in game managing)

He's had a ton of success, but then when he gets to the pinnacle, he is still ripped (rightfully) for the moves that almost cost them a title.

I'm not sure, how Id react if I were him. It's not right, but I can see it.

A guy in my office (sox fan) told me "the genius" Maddon would go to the Yankees. I said, Maddon gets love but Francona gets as much if not more and he said I was crazy.

Maddon has been ripped pretty consistently since Game 7. The genius thing is over for him.

I do think he's a good dude in real life. Probably buys drinks. Same with Dusty. Pinella seems like a prick.

Dusty seems like an awful person to me.

Maddon seems condescending. As much as Maddon tries to come off as some peace-loving hippie, I think he's clearly very egotistical and holds strong grudges against guys who ever cross him.

I think he's a good team manager but average with in-game decisions.

Why does Dusty seem like an awful person?

Yea, Maddon is arrogant. Still think Id enjoy having a few drinks with him.

"Awful person" is probably strong, but he seems very bitter and angry to me. Always got that vibe whether he was broadcasting or coaching.

Heck, I think you could even go back to when he was a player.

Should peace loving hippies not hold grudges?

They are normal people

I think it takes quite a bit of cognitive dissonance to constantly preach about fostering a culture of openness and allowing players to express themselves and then not playing a guy because he disagrees with you on something.

Are you talking about that cunty LaStella who ditched the team last year and is probably starting tonight?

That was evident when he responded to Spiegel/Parkins' question of whether he would move struggling Schwarber out of the leadoff position and Maddon said, "why would I do that?" Funny thing was that Schwarber was not only out of the leadoff position soon after that, but also out of the league.

He's one, but he also clearly didn't like Jason Hammel or Miggy Montero.

You can also hear him get indignant when anyone in the media challenges him.

Think you're going a little far there. None of those guys deserve any more playing time/confidence than Maddon gave them.

Hammel cried during a 97 win season
Montero complained about playing time THE DAY OF A CHAMPIONSHIP PARADE
LaStella ditched the team.

Maddon is condescending and arrogant, but this argument is weak.

Im sure he disagrees with Jon Lester on pretty much every non baseball issue and still favors him.

Furthermore, this is just you getting out your (my god liberals have gone crazy) angst and I get it...they have. Dont blame Joe for Lena Dunham.

 What? I don't know that Joe Maddon is liberal. In fact, I think he's probably conservative on most issues.

Joe is a self-described social liberal/financial conservative.

Also very thin-skinned and bad at post-season hair choices.

Peace loving hippie conservative.

Anyway, if we get to a Game 5, it will be the Game 7 plan again with Davis replacing Chapman.

Hendricks, Lester, and Davis. Id be shocked to see any other pitcher barring extra innings.

Ok, he's a conservative. He's probably fire bombing an abortion clinic right now.

As long as he stays out of the way the rest of this series.

Nothing like a playoff game when everyone is at school and work. Way to go MLB!

Who goes to school on Columbus day?

Can't have a baseball game going at the same time as a Monday Bears game. If anything, the NFL should be Dbagged for putting a Monday game in an MLB city during the first round of the playoffs. Saints, Panthers, Bills, Jaguars all could have hosted this week's MNF game with the MLB playoffs then being a non-issue.

Casimir Dolphin must have been out of town or something this weekend. I thought for sure that he would have started at least 2 or 3 different threads about the street closures for the marathon.

I think it's obvious why Joe lost so many times in the playoffs with Tampa even with "great teams". The Cubs had enough talent to overcome him.

Just like Billy Beane, small market team + make the playoffs a lot = greatness in MLB regardless of context and then we can all pretend that actually winning in the World Series doesn't matter, until a team wins the World Series, and then it matters, but not really because it's mostly luck anyways and the regular seasons win total is more important.

I missed this.

Of course they did. I pointed that out in my post when I said he was rightfully criticized for Game 7.

Man you really twist yourself into a pretzel with this stuff. What are you trying to figure out? Is it that difficult to understand that the variance possible in 11-17 games is way more significant than 162?

Billy Beane is a good gm who is probably over loved.

Maddon is a good manager who is also over loved.

It's not unique to baseball. Andy Reid is a better NFL coach than Barry Switzer.

Also, I believe Maddon has only lost one playoff series where his team was favored (2010)
