Hey dope, you started this thread in the Cubs section...

Also by my quick count there are at least 10 teams with better playoff winning percentages than any team that went 11-1, so it isn't really all that historic.

I assume the count is World Series that ended in sweeps. There is a big problem with that. The 2005 World Series ended in a sweep. So, the White Sox are equal to those teams still.

Just let us have this. You guys have the winning a title and then winning two more games and making the playoffs thing to hold over us.

I guess this is what I get for being nice and gracious to the Cubs this year.

Yes, shame on the White Sox for winning more playoff games than the 1914 Boston Braves and 1976 Reds.

If One Post really wants to go down this road, we can. 2015 Cubs were 3rd place. 2017 Cubs were the 3rd best record in the NL. 2016 Cubs were the best team in the NL, yet lost three World Series games. The 2005 White Sox were the best team in the AL, and swept the World Series. So if he really wants to have things as they were "back in the day", where the two top teams in the league made the World Series and that was it as far as playoffs go, than the Sox own a 1.000 wining percentage as well.

I'll assemble the Cub Conclave.

If you see white smoke, Chus is probably there - which would be a good sign.

Remember, this isn't about the Cubs, please reference Good Dolphin's post.

Thanks in advance...

You said it isn't all that historic. I pointed out how 2005 really was. And simply added how the 2016 Cubs were not.

Thanks for playing.

Not really fair to penalize teams that were undefeated or just 1 loss because decades later they added more playoff rounds.

05 was a great post season run. Probably one of the 10 best ever and as Marty pointed out, the best one this century so far.

BleacherReport, which I think we all agree is the authority on such things, has the Sox as the 4th best ever.

Which is great. Stop being greedy.

It's not about penalizing them. The fact is the White Sox swept the World Series too so it can't be held against them that others did it as One Post tried to do.

Subdivision talking about 2005 is pretty much as sad now as Bears fans talking about 1985. Nobody cares about the past.

I simply don't understand why my referencing a one season, hypothetical playoff run for discussion with my many cubbie fans has to evoke such name calling. This was just an academic discussion that didn't reference the Sox or the cubbies. Though the Sox did happen to have a remarkable run to the world series in 2005 and the cubbies have now lost more games in each of their playoff runs over the last three years, I certainly wasn't comparing the two teams.

I hope you find peace. I won't hold this against you as I know it is just the anxiety talking.
