That's crazy talk too. If you look at the Cub rotation going forward and what is available in free agency, getting Quintana- or a guy like him- was critical for this team's future. The thing I would be concerned about is that a big part of his value was all the innings he covered. Now all of a sudden he didn't get 200 innings for the first time.

That's Maddons fault.

1. No family members should be on that flight.
2. You surrender game 1 with Lackey and make him go 8 or 9..then every starter is on regular rest not everybody pitching on short rest .

No he's not.

He is absolutely not the #2 on a World Series team. Maybe on a bad team.

I would have traded Quintana to the Nippon Ham Fighters so he could join Jose Abreu.

I disagree. He's probably the #2 next season. He was arguably the Cubs best pitcher the last 2 months. Bosio will help him take another step forward.

Because he was absolutely awful for more than half of the season.

It's a win/win for both teams, though Cease will be a bust. Already hurt. It all comes down to Eloy.

That may be, but that's saying more about the Cub rotation than it is about him.

Also, I think we have to clarify what we mean when we call a guy a "#1, #2, etc." I think those labels don't really have anything to do with where they fit on a particular team, i.e. some teams may have two #1's and most teams don't have a #1 at all.

So, are you taking back your thought that the Sox should have built around Sale and Quintana?

Fair enough, I just dont know anyone could be comfortable going up against the other premier #2 pitchers.

Here are the #2 guys in the playoffs (you can argue some of them are 1s but just put the other guy in there and comparison works)

Strasburg
Darvish
Tanaka
Price
Verlander
Ray
Carrasco

Quintana doesn't belong with those guys.

To win the world series, you pretty much need a #2 pitching like he could be a #1 for most teams.

but they're not. That's the point. They could be on another team but they're not on another team. So they're the #2. Because that's what good teams do, they have two #1's.

Did all but one of their runs come off of homeruns for the entire series?

I agree it's best to have 2 dominant pitchers but I like the Hendricks and Quintana's ans believe that you can win a WS with them as top 3 pitchers. Next year the Cubs may not have a true #1 unless they make a trade or go shopping.

Ray had a great season. I would also like to have a dominant Lester and Arrieta at the top of my rotation too.

Yea, no problem with Q and Hendricks being 2/3 or 2a and 2b

I wish the shaming of Strasburg had went through and they had to trade him.

Coming off an injury. Im sure they still plan to start him in Game 2 next year.

You can throw Pomeranz in there. Quintana is probably on his level. They are the worst of that group.

So thats one out of six that Q might be better than.

RPB is correct. Q isn't a rag arm, but he does not belong in the conversation with those guys...or Kershaw, or Sale, or the other #1's.

Other than Ray there really isn't an argument that you would rather have Quintana. Those guys have been studs for years. Some suck under pressure though.
