If we're honestly looking at that list, right now none of them goes in. Maybe Radiohead one day, but right now, no one. I like The Cars and Depeche Mode, but they're not HOF caliber.

Explain with Radiohead. I am not a fan boi but I can’t see what more they need to do to deserve a place in the HoF. Like their music or not they had a major influence on the landscape. Ok Computer (not my favorite) alone pretty much gets them in. Or is it that you think it is too soon for them to get in?

Yes, just a little too soon. I think their catalogue is HOF-caliber. But I think it's just a little early.

Their biggest album came out 20 years ago and their first album came out 24 years ago. By rights, they should be far back enough in the rear-view to consider them, but alternative rock has had a weird end-of-history thing going where so many artists and bands from the 1990s have soldiered on deep into the 2010s: Radiohead, Beck, Bjork, Wilco, the Afghan Whigs, the Mountain Goats, Ryan Adams, to name a few. How many bands from 1976 were still turning out meaningful releases in 1996?

I thought an artist had to have released their first album at least 30 years ago. That would seem to preclude Radiohead, unless they go by when a group was first "formed."

It must be 25 years, so Pablo Honey in '93 qualifies them for 2018.

Aerosmith. After that it gets thin.

Excellent perspective. Did the evolution of the music business help the latter generation? The ability to operate on different scale and being able to hit your target audience helps greatly because there are less links in the chain. The bands from 76 were mostly just snuffed out by record companies in one way or another.

There is probably a lot of truth to that.

Eurythmics belong in the HoF. They have a VU sort of influence that's larger than their original body of work/fan base. And Dave Stewart's been a go-to producer/song-doctor post-Eurythmics.

Yep. Lester Bangs was right.

Yep, great new wave band . I’ve said it before but Eliot Easton is a beast and underrated guitar player.
Look at the songs on their debut
Just What I Needed
Good Times Roll
My Best Friends Girl
Moving in Stereo
You’re All I’ve Got Tonight
Bye Bye Love

And a big fuck you to JORR , Dire Straits got in

I remember Easton was interviewed a little while ago. He said that they had a bit of a curse because they mage their greatest hits LP as their debut LP.

That first album is amazing. Candy-O is also really good. I'm a big fan.

Well, The Cars do their usual dances,
Same old cruise and the curbside crawl,
But the rollergirl, she's taking chances,
They just love to see her take them all,
No fears alone at night, she's sailing through the crowd,
In her ears the phones are tight, and music's playing loud.

The Cars and Dire Straits are both great.
I'm sure the members of Radiohead care even less than I do about their 'snub'.

Maybe Radiohead hurt the committee's feelings by announcing their intention to blow off such American silliness. It's fine. We know how good Radiohead is.

I remember the first time I saw BonJovi. I thought they looked like some guys imitating a Rock Band.

Pretty boy frontman-check
long haired cohorts-check
make a video where the band looks road weary-check
multiple songs indistinguishable from one another-check
HOF-check

Probably playing the Mid-Summer Classics Concert Series in Elk Grove some time this summer.

Or, they're all dead.

Same/same
